Another fishing altercation

Another fishing altercation - 03/21/23 01:45 AM

Sorry for the folks that don’t have FB, but here’s another fishing altercation that is becoming more and more common. Angry dock owner upset about people fishing around his dock. So upset, he feels the need to carry a shotgun to confront the fishermen. This was in the Fishers of Men tournament this weekend on Miller’s Ferry near Camden. Y’all know him?

Oh wow.id been on the news for sure.what a Karen
Ain't no way I'd be fishing public waters and deal with that guy and not called water patrol atleast for ole boys best interest with me or in future.someone needs to explain how the world on the lake work's
I'm afraid I would not have been nearly as friendly easing my boat away.
I hope y'all fish the hell out of his pier.public water screw him would be a bad situation with me involved .old guy like that ought to know better.
Someone needs to educate him before he gets hurt
And in south Alabama what a shame

Probably had someone steal something from his dock. Think he accused him of trying to look for something. I am proud of the fella fishing by asking God to bless him. I would have fell short and probably said some stuff I shouldn’t have…. That dock was all wood weren’t it?

Re: Another fishing altercation - 03/21/23 08:54 AM

There's a lot of that crap now-days. I bet he's gonna have some issues real soon that he don't want. They should have baited him into making threats that included use of that gun while they were videoing.
He ain't right for sure, wearing socks with flip-flops lol

We used to own a cabin on the water down there but I don’t remember anyone like that!

had a run in with the same moran last summer flipping his dock, probably a liberal

Re: Another fishing altercation - 03/21/23 12:09 PM

Keep fishing. If he threatens you more, just take a video and call the local Sheriff's office and file a complaint. He only owns the priviledge of putting a dock there and technically, you could have jumped off on his dock and other than getting shot he could do nothing, APCO owns the water and allows you access. Unless it is Neely. There is only 1 place in the whole Coosa River chain where you own the dock and it is considered private property.

Re: Another fishing altercation - 03/21/23 03:35 PM

I'd have been on the phone with the Wilcox GW and the sheriff. But that idiot right there, is exactly why I have an A/R tossed in the rod box and a 9MM laying on top of the console, up against the windshield, anytime I am fishing on the river. People are idiots these days and you never know what kind of situation you might run into. Dumbasses like him think they own the public water that their property touches, which in AL they do not, and there are plenty of stupid people like him on every lake and river. There's some pretty rough boys that fish the ferry on a regular basis. Old man keeps that up, and waving that shotgun around, he'll find the right redneck and he'll end up ventilated and bleeding out on his dock. Hope he gets his temper under control before it kills him.

Re: Another fishing altercation - 03/21/23 06:37 PM

We have a guy that has a summer home on Blackwater Bay that does the same thing. He is originally from NY. His dock was destroyed by weather and he still hollers when people try to fish around it.

I believe his neighbor was or is a federal GW.

Re: Another fishing altercation - 03/21/23 07:45 PM

I would like to see his reaction if the ol' boys in the boat would have just completely ignored him like he wasnt even there and kept on fishing. I bet that old man would have flipped his lid before it was over. rofl

On a serious not though, the best thing to do in that situation in my opinion is just get the hell out of there before you got shot by a crazy person. Then call the po-po before he kills someone else.

Re: Another fishing altercation - 03/21/23 09:09 PM

Might get away acting like that in south FL, but he’ll earn a Darwin Award in Wilcox County.

I've watched B.A.S.S. and MLF pros work marina boat slips and private docks over like a sponge soaking up water... and never have seen or heard of anyone of them being harassed by a shotgun toting senior citizen , so what makes this dude so special ? maybe they should have not fished his private boat slip but its public water

There is nothing wrong with fishing his "private" boat dock. As long as they didn't put a foot on it, they are good. I'm not cocky at all, but I will fish whatever boat dock I want to, in the state of Alabama. That was harassment by the old man, and the only law being broken, pending nothing happened before the recording started.

Yep. But one of these days he's going to be toting a gun down there to scare someone and it ain't going to work out for either of them.

A lady was videoed yelling and spraying a some guys with a water hose and it went viral and it snowballed into fish so and so’s dock. The next week hundreds of boats gathered in front of the pier as marine police stood by.

Re: Another fishing altercation - 03/22/23 03:06 PM

I'm so glad that my kids cast better now. Those first years we spent more time on docks retrieving lures than in the water. Only had trouble once with a guy. He was not yelling but mad. I calmly apologized and explained to him that I'd feel bad if him or his grandkids got a hook in their foot that got left up there. He said he never though of that then told the boys good luck.

Nothing like a wake up call to the whole slough when a spook lands on a tin roof on a quiet morning, I'l like a Karen alarm.

No need, you just need to return the favor. You ever seen how much water a 4 blade prop on a 225 will move, in less than a second, and how far it will throw it? If not, trim one up so the prop is barely in the water and stomp the hot foot to the floor. Spray me with a water hose and I'll knock you completely off your own dock and into the water, with a wave of water that will make think you were hit in the chest with a 3" fire hose under full pressure.

Dang crazy. unless it crappie most do catch and release. Yes acting like he wasn’t there would have really set him off. It’s the principle of being on public water not touching his dock I’d say keep fishing BUT. It’s not worth getting shot over a fish or any animal for that matter.

Serious question. I know harassing a hunter is a big thing. Does that apply to fishermen also?
Next, does anyone want to go fishing? I know a good spot by a dock.

Here ya go... § 9-11-270. Interference with persons legally hunting or fishing.

No person shall willfully and knowingly prevent, obstruct, impede, disturb, or interfere with, or attempt to prevent, obstruct, impede, disturb, or interfere with any person in legally hunting or fishing pursuant to the rules and regulations of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and the law of the State of Alabama.

Re: Another fishing altercation - 03/23/23 06:26 PM

I had that happen on Logan Martin fishing a night tourney. Dude had those underwater lights, and we were catching some fish off his pier and he comes running down there jawing at us. He said it was "HIS" pier. I said no its not. It's alabama power's pier. They own the lake, you have to have their permission to build a pier. He threated to call the marine police, I asked him if he wanted to borrow my phone. Then said something about getting a gun and I laughed and said, you act like no one else has a gun but you......

Had one of the two boys in the boat been my son the two men would have had to whip my ass. Every time I saw them. Wherever that happened to be. Until I got over it.

Re: Another fishing altercation - 04/10/23 12:15 AM

It would suck to buy a lake place, get you a nice boat and spend a bunch of time installing structure... only to have someone fishing all over it every time you look at it. Bouncing lead and lures of the coul of the motor or side of your pontoon. That being said not a much you can do except make it hard to fish from anywhere but on the dock. That and put a motion sensor on your dock light. smile

If someone is that hell-bent on stopping people from fishing their dock, a garage door with those screens that cover the gap down to the water line and boards between the posts at the water line is about the only way to stop it

Re: Another fishing altercation - 04/10/23 04:21 PM

It's sort of like building a house right beside the interstate and then yelling at the cars as they pass by. A boat dock is visible cover, and people are going to fish visible cover. If you add even more cover around it, that's just gonna concentrate more fishermen around your dock. Attracting fish to a particular spot on public water and then getting angry because people fish for them is just irrational. Build a private lake if you want privacy; can't get it on public water.

Re: Another fishing altercation - 04/10/23 09:35 PM

Very true. I’m not saying its reasonable to expect folks to leave your dock alone. It would just suck to have someone bumping up on your dock everytime you look at it. Nothing you can do about it though other than be that guy.

And y’all know there are some that would pull up on a dock and fish it while the dock owner is fishing it, just because “they can”.

Good. Now if they'd make all those folks on smith remove all the cables they've got running to anchors on the bank, well that'd just be great. Bout gotten to the point you can't beat the bank anymore. Seems they're blocking public waterways. Just saying...

Good. Maybe that will adjust his behavior a little.

I live in Wilcox county and let me tell you, if he threatens the right locals like that with a gun over some such nonsense then he had better be damn well prepared to use it.

Exactly. Well put. Doesn't anyone explain this to these people who buy a house on a public lake? Because if your temperament won't allow you to tolerate someone flipping a lure at your pier or boat dock then maybe the lake front life isn't for you. Buy a cabin in the mountains instead.

Also reminiscent of public land road hunters. I see a guy sometimes at a spot on public. He sits in the well of his open van side doors, and gives you a lot of hand signals and body
language that suggest that you are doing something wrong if you pass by.
