Kayak trailer "build"

Kayak trailer "build" - 09/17/21 06:49 PM

I had a small utility trailer that hadn't been used a while. It was only 4'wide, so there wasn't a lot I could do with it. I turned it into this kayak hauler. I built the box with storage. One side holds paddles, one is a rod locker, and then life jacket storage in one end, tackle in the other. It works really good with just one kayak. Three's a crowd, but it works.

There's a market for those if you start building them. I guarantee it. Fine looking rig.

Looks really nice. I like that it will tote 3. Is the coating on the plywood water proof?

Re: Kayak trailer "build" - 09/17/21 10:42 PM

Yes. It's Raptor liner bedliner coating. My wife told me it was a bad idea using plywood, but it's what I had. It will start indoors except when being used and I'm a fair weather fisherman. So, I should be good. I may redo it sometime later after I see how well it works out. So far, it's easy better than throwing things in the bed of the truck.

What is the vehicle to the left with the wood panel?

That's Awesome Klay, my first vehicle was a International Travelall green with wood paneling!

Have you ever taken the ghosts offshore?

Never been anywhere but Lake Guntersville with them. I just bought them this summer. Have only been out a few times so far. I have paddled the Feel Free every time.

I'm going to break down and get one to fish just off the beach and maybe a few miles out when snapper season is open. I've looked at them and almost bought one but waited until they were sold out. Kind of want something easy to add a trolling motor to for the longer trips. Nice build on the trailer.
