Mobile bay - 07/25/20 09:08 PM

Where’s the best place to launch on mobile bay if you wanted to catch reds /trout ! I went out with a guide but all we fished was the light house and the island . I really want to drive down I with my boat and give it a try but need help getting started . I was thinking of going to ft Morgan and starting there but I want to get my feet wet first in the ocean . Any help would be great appreciated .

You can launch at Fort Morgan

There are still plenty of fish on all of the rigs north of Ft. Morgan. To fish thee lower end of the bay, you MUST pay attention to the wind. Anything E or W will make life rough.
A rig hook and/or a good anchor is important. Tons of spanish and bluefish now and will need plenty of hooks. I typically fish the causeway and Mobile River. For some reason (possibly earlier floods), fish have really not moved north(numbers wise).

Really just depends on the winds. There are other bouys around DI. Storms blow up quick and just need to be aware. Fish an 18 Kenner and a 21 Frontier. Have had storms blow up and taken some over the bow. Not trying to scare you, just need to know that open water is different than creeks and rivers.

I would launch at week’s bay or fort Morgan and fish the rigs right now. Slip cork and shrimp or pogies should get it done.

Thanks for the replies , is there a place to get bait at ft Morgan or weeks bay ? I’m going to plan a day trip so buying bait would be ideal .

Is that Frontier a 210 or a 2110? How do you like it? I have the 190 and want to move up to the 2110 eventually.

Not really sure, it is my fishing partners boat, but I really like it. The Kenner brothers know how to build a boat. I would like to have the front livewell from my Kenner on his Frontier for pogies, but pretty much the perfect boat for inshore fishing.

It's a 2110 and I love it

Following this closely. I’m pulling my boat down in October. Our very own TCHunter has been giving me some pointers. Trying to learn all I can before going.

I hope you don’t mind listening to his big ears flapping in the wind. Gosh, you REALLY need to make sure the wind isn’t over 10 kts, if you take him with you. 😁

This time of yer launch in little lagoon on ft Morgan rd at dark and fish lights. North and south winds only. Live shrimp weightless or with a small split shot or a rattle cork and about 18” of line under it. be very quiet coming in to them and while fishing them.
