Dang you are killing them. I would not know what to do with a mess like that. How long will they stay good in the freezer?

Re: Crappie getttin right - 11/14/19 02:55 AM

I just cooked a bag that was a year old Saturday before game. Freeze them in water. Trying to get stocked up before deer season.

Great I froze 100 or so last spring and was gonna do a big fry sometime this winter just making sure they would taste the same. I did put them in water

You tell me. I dont have to work tomorrow and I was planning on fishing.

Re: Crappie getttin right - 11/15/19 12:10 AM

You got a heater on the boat! Thatā€™s cheating! Iā€™d put an A/C on mine if it would help in the summer
Posted By: ridgestalker

Re: Crappie getttin right - 11/15/19 03:55 AM

We have 2 heaters one for me and one for Dad. Pontoon is about as comfortable and safe as it gets.
Posted By: FurFlyin

Re: Crappie getttin right - 11/15/19 10:41 AM

Thereā€™s lots of things you can do with a pontoon to make them very comfortable to fish from. I donā€™t know if Iā€™ll ever have one but theyā€™re great for crappie, bream and catfishing.

I took the info in this thread and tried me some crappie fishing today, we caught exactly zero crappie. I am a terrible crappie fisherman. That is not ok with me.

Find the shad and the crappie will be close by.

Re: Crappie getttin right - 11/16/19 12:57 AM

Monday when me and the boy caught 1 crappie, there was more bait in that creek than ive ever seen anywhere. I figured they must have had all they could eat already

That describes me to a T too. I can catch the crap out of them from Feb-June but the rest of the year is a real struggle. I keep trying to learn, and keep getting knocked back down.

Did you try today at Guntersville?
Posted By: ridgestalker

Re: Crappie getttin right - 11/16/19 03:00 AM

They one we filleted today were swelled up full of shad.

I asked a good friend of mine who fishes alot where he would go if somebody told him to fish the edge of grass near a creek channel. He said morgans cove and I knew exactly the grass he was talking about. When I got out there, it just didnt look like what I expected, most of the grass was short, right on bottom. I couldnt find any fish so I tried in the deeper parts of the channel, I never found any fish. I felt like I had just sat down to play fortnight with my son, if you know what I mean. I was lost. I didnt want to go sit under a bridge so we took out and went to the dam and caught a few fish, nothing to brag about. Im gona have to have somebody teach me what to look for as far as the crappie go, I just dont know what im doing. Ive found plenty of bait at times but ive never found crappie with them, then again maybe they were there and I didnt know what I was doing. Its just really discouraging being ignorant and thats what it boils down to, ignorance.

Re: Crappie getttin right - 11/16/19 02:34 PM

I was going to say if you fished the south end of Guntersville there aren't many good channels left in the creeks. There are some, but all creeks don't have channels. There's a lot of difference in the layout of the south end and up where Ridgestalker fishes. I think I'm about to start travelling to crappie fish.

I fish Morgans cove, a lot. Of all the places I've thought to try that meet Ridgestalkers criteria, that place never crossed my radar. I think you got garholed. LOL

Check your PM's.

If he garholed me, it wasnt on purpose. The grass was probably right out to the edge of the creek channel last time he was there. He gives me alot of good info over the years. Hes also one of my best friends.
