The other snapper - 08/17/19 01:44 PM

Beeliners aka vermilion snapper, 1 mangrove, and some Bonita on Zara spooks for tuna bait in the up coming weeks. Great trip had to be back by 12 due to leaving the wives at home with the kids, and we were supposed to be down here for a 4 year olds bday. slap

That actually looks awesome! We usually just throw them in the freezer for cut bait.

Jilbuc did you ever chum up Mangos on the Canaveral wrecks at night? That was just about my favorite fishing back in the day.If you could get them up in the lights and use light tackle it was a blast. And these were full grown, not lil pan friers. Six to ten plus pounders were not uncommon.

Never off Canaveral, plenty of times in the keys and in the gulf. They are some of my favorite fish to catch and eat. Caught a bunch earlier this summer out of Clearwater on really light spin gear(3500 size, braided line is a game changer!) on live shrimp in about 60 feet of water.

my youngest brother hooked a three pound mangrove snapper in the Keys. As he reached to lip it my mind was saying nnoooooooooooooo! But too late, he instantly learned why you do not put any part of yer body that you like near a snappers mouth.

I did that the first time I caught a speckled trout. Never had been. About the time my buddy said "Don't lip it, Big Al!" I felt that sting. You learn quickly and never forget.

I also once wanted to see what a sheepshead bite was like so I stuck the knuckle of my thumb in there. Do. Not. Do. This.

I had one bite through my thumbnail once....learned to NEVER get a digit even remotely close to their mouff grin

Re: The other snapper - 08/27/19 05:26 PM

Had a Mangrove swallow the hook one time. Grabbed him like a big ole Bream
and reached down to bite the line with my mouf. Oh Dear Lord that thing almost
took my lip off. I've bled less in fist fights. Do not trust em. They are vindictive.
