Re: SNAPPA' - 05/24/19 06:03 PM

Catching a snapper has gotten so easy that even Out back could do it. But yes we will hit some wreaks on our way in from the blue water.

You won't catch many 15 to 25 Pounders just dropping down the old heavy lead route though....

I thought a 15 pounder was like beeliners these days? Now 25 plus are beast!

I’ll stick to pulling dusters next to weed lines and platforms.

Nothing wrong with loading the cooler trolling or bottom fishing BUT I like sightfishing weedlines and flipping live bait to lit up dorado on light tackle. 2nd favorite is putting a perfect cast on a cruising cobia and hooking up in front of forty-eleven other boats trying to do the same thing. High speed trolling for wahoo is addictive too but that's not for the faint of heart and your tackle game better be on point.

High speed on 30W is where it’s at.

They catch plenty of snapper on party boats now.

Re: SNAPPA' - 05/26/19 01:27 AM

It's going to be a long couple months for me, but at least it's not derby fishing being its weekends only for private boats instead of X amount of days in a row.
Posted By: Strictlybow

Re: SNAPPA' - 05/26/19 03:08 AM

We went today and found some bliners, threw back a really nice gag and caught a 20# blackfin on 10# braid bait rod flatline. Threw back a few snappa but had a good day.

Ok, i caught one one time that might have weighed about 15lbs an thats bout the biggest ive ever seen..daddy caught some that was 30lbs plus but it was awhile back an i dont remember eatin any of them or what they tasted like. We dont bottom fish much so i dont catchem a whole lot..we do chumem up occasionally in shallower water an pitch jigs an such atem on lightish spinnin tackle they are fun to fiddle with like that. Weve caught some nice cobia an kings like that to but dont getm like that often...fun fun fun tho.

Re: SNAPPA' - 06/02/19 08:15 PM

Both state and feds had boat counters at Perdido Pass yesterday morning to compare boat traffic heading out to snapper check reports. Even though it is mandatory, this could come back to bite us, and along with the pretty weather, season could end way early. Nice fish gator, was wondering who you were fishing with when you posted the weighs. M&M are a couple of the best at that game.

I kind of feel the same about snapper check as Outback does about seatbelts

Re: SNAPPA' - 06/02/19 09:34 PM

Snapper check is a great thing, it got our foot in the door with NOAA or we would have had way fewer days. I stay on top of all meetings, both fed and state, just a little concerned, fish got hammered the last two days and some snooping going around. If seas would have been 3-4, I would feel a little better.

Re: SNAPPA' - 06/02/19 09:54 PM

I was under the impression that if I did it, it counted against the yearly quota and could only end in season shutting down early.

No doubt about that right there. They are fine.

We grilled bliners yesterday and smoked 5 lbs of blackfin for dip.

Re: SNAPPA' - 06/04/19 02:45 AM

Nothing fancy TC.

Brined and smoked fish. I’ve used different kinds of fish and it’s all good.
Cream cheese, mayo, sour cream and green onions.
Jalapeños and chips.
