What kind of catfish? - 10/26/17 09:12 PM
A friend of mine has moved to mobile this year on one of the rivers just above the bay. He has been catching some catfish and doesn't know what they are. One looks like a blue but then again it doesn't the other I have no idea. [img:center]http://

We call the top one a black spotted bull head.
The above is the Ciba-Geigy Superfund site catfish.

Spotted one is a flathead...note the tail is not forked.
Other one is a channel cat...anal fin is curved. Blue cats have a straight anal fin.

The spotted one looks like it has hard spines in the fins. A flat head does not.A flat head has no barb in the fin to stick through your hand.

Those fish are not superfund size yet. Or, are they in your neck of the woods? They typically get to 50-70lb up here before they start glowing at night.

Not superfund size, but 3 eyes, 2 tails, and 5 stomachs.

Reminds me......
We were over in Mississippi, riding around after a hunt and came upon some ladies sitting on buckets snatching fsih out of a big ditch. Of course we had to ask...
These is little pollywog catfish, ugly as hell, but they alright to eat when ain't nuthin else biting. When she leaned forward I read the sign just above her head....
DO NOT EAT THE CATFISH FROM THESE WATERS DUE TO EXTREMELY HIGH AND DANGEROUS LEVELS OF MERCURY CONTAMINATION!
