Caught A Rock - 10/23/17 10:29 PM

Well it was a new one on me. I caught and landed a rock. Felt like Charlie Brown in the Halloween episode.
You know how your graph always lights up with fish when you go under a causeway bridge on Guntersville? A buddy had been talking to me about jigging a spoon there and catching a variety of fish.
I was running from one spot to another but I stopped to jig for 5 minutes. Caught a chunk rock big as my fist. It actually felt like a fish for just a second.

Yep. Been there. If the current is real strong and your in the edge of it. You will start getting the net.

What color spoon were those rocks hitting? !/2 or 3/4 oz? rolleyes
Was in a tx one time in Texas. A guy fought a big fish a long time on a crankbait, but never gained any ground on it. You could see the fish moving his rod tip. Finally he found it was a 20 flathead on a trotline and his crankbait had hooked the trotline right where the catfish was hooked. He was fighting the trotline and the fish was fighting it too.

I caught a mussel as big as my hand down below the dam while stripe fishing. I guess it was laying there open and my sassy shad fell into it. It clamped down on it. I thought I had a 30 lb stripe and so did everybody up and down the bank. It was spinning like a boat prop in the water and it would run upstream a while and then down stream a while. It took me several minutes to get it in. You should have seen the look of disappointment on the faces of the other folks that were fishing. It was hilarious.

But I've never caught a rock. I bet they bite slow. smile

My wife caught a hook one time.

We were catching snapper and she hooked one and was bringing it up. He came off about half way up so she feels up to rebait and there’s a circle hook hanging on her circle hook.

We couldn’t believe that she pulled it out of his mouth and it stayed on her hook.

Congratulations on the catch!

I hooked a rock and thought I was fighting a fish once. Very strong current. Wasn't able to land it and donated my terminal tackle to the bottom.

I have watched several people fighting the cable off the wall right below Guntersville dam. Nobody has ever got it in though as far as I know. LOL They don't want to hear that it's not a huge fish, so it's best to just let them wear themselves out.

When I was a teen, and even before, I remember my Daddy and others snagging down there and occasionally they'd have a single fish scale as big around as a coke can on one of the big treble hooks.
