Went out on Guntersville this morning

Went out on Guntersville this morning - 07/16/17 07:29 PM

in search of some July crappie. I watched Richard Gene the Fishing Machine on Youtube as he caught July crappie from these same places so I knew I could load the boat with slabs wink My plan was to fish deep under 3 different bridges and I did. I caught 1 drum and 1 tiny bream. But, all was not lost as I watched a feller drag about 10 keepers out from under 1 bridge. He said he has occasional luck even in July at this spot and he had good luck today. I'll be fishing in his spot one day soon if he's not there. he caught them as long as the water was moving under the bridge. When the water shut off, so did the fish and we went our separate ways.

Oh......Richard Gene, I am not. I salute you, sir.

you need to find some deeper docks and shoot a slider grub under them

If this was you this morning Mr. Wiley, I waved as I went by but didn't see you return a wave. Looks like your Johnson's still working. 😁

Dayum. All this crappie talk has me wanting to crappie fish. I've caught a few incidentally but really know nothing about it.
Maybe this fall...

Bout 1am with a bucket uv shiners prolly 20ft deep. Ive caught a many ovem in july but its aggrevatin to jigem when tha waters this warm but it can be done you gottah be real patient an if the water aint movin you can just about hang it up. If i was gonna jigem id fish from bout 5am to bout 9 or 10 or when ever my water stopped movin or well they quit bitn. If you aint started catchin by around 7 or 8 id quit. I always liked to set up not under the bridge but right outside it and drag the jig incredibly slow against the current at probly a 15-30 count. Watch for line twitch cause feelin them might not be real easy right now but dragin against that current will help. On another note i hate fishin for crappie around here this time of year its to much work to me..it is challenging tho. I wouldnt rite of a small creek channel or the mouth of a goof fast flowin creek that has some depth to it,i know you could catch some at the rocks in the back of short creek. Its deep an the waters always cooler.

Most every point and channel bend should have some somewhere. I've taken a light tackle spinning rod with a 1/16 oz and a motor oil chart and motor oil neon blue tube and hit blow downs where the channel bends into the bank and flat wore them out in the heat of the day. I love love love getting out in the stick-ups at night with a floating light, slip bobber rigs and minnows. Best night of fishing ever was five of us on a pontoon with 3 kindergarten tub light builds on dedicated car batteries in stickup in peckerwood creek on lay. It was one right after another. We all had our limit once we got the depth down. All in all I bet we caught over 200 crappie before we got tired of throwing them back. That's one of those mornings that you don't get done cleaning fish till noon. I still remember not being able to close my eyes to fall asleep when we got home without seeing a bobber go under.

Richard Dean is good. I believe he could catch a crappie in walmart parking lot.
