I fish Chippewa three or four times a year. You will not find it unless you go with someone that has been in there before. We'll worth going but tide has nothing to do with getting in the lake,it's all about water level at Barry steam plant.

We usually make a trip or two in late April, first of May.The river stage should be between 4.5'-5' at Barry's Steam plant.Good bream and perch fishing if you can get in there. You really need to go with someone that has been before on your first trip,it can be tricky finding your way in there.

One other thing to add, if it is "too easy" to get in there, fishing will be more difficult. Same for doctors and fishers north of Bates Lake on the Tombigbee.

these lakes and big and little chippewa just dried up. no need in going anymore to these. grin
chippewa is a pain when it gets to high to get in and youll be riding all through the woods. i would go with someone else that knew where they were going. i've always went in through joes crib.

4.5 to 5 feet is a little high we go when Barry is at 3ft and have no problem getting in.. Fishing is better in little c but a pain in a$$ to get in . We always just stop at big c and do very good on bream and perch. Always make a day of fishing when u get in,don't come out til the cooler is full..

Yep. Anything over a three is what's usually go by. At least for our John boats.

Mobile River is going to be 3.7' Saturday, should be pretty good for fishing. We always launch at Cedar creek landing and run down to jose crib to get in Chippewa.

How hard is it to get in there?

Re: Chippewa Lake - 04/01/15 03:09 PM

It can be pretty tough if you don't have a small flat bottom boat.My boat will not get in there at all,I have to go with a buddy that has a 14' alum. with a 15 hp. on it.It is about a mile thru the woods in a narrow ditch that is full of cypress knees and logs that you have to get over if some one has not cut them yet.It takes us about an hour from cedar creek to the mouth of the lake, last year we tried to go into little chippewa but the ditch going to it was silted in and we couldn't make it.Try to find some one that has been in there before to show you where it is.If you have a delta guide map you can find it,there is a small opening just south of the power plant that takes you in there. If the water is out of the banks DO NOT try to find your way thru the ditch,if the water level is right you can see the ditch no problem.
