Tomato Leaf Curl?

Tomato Leaf Curl? - 08/18/21 02:08 PM

So I planted some determinate bush variety tomatoes in containers back end of July. So far not seeing much growth at all and have started noticing some leaf curl on new leaf growth and old as well as a few brown rust looking spots. I’ve been treating as recommended with the Gardensafe Fungicide 3 since I noticed it a couple weeks back. Plants aren’t dying, just aren’t growing. Anything I can do or it is a lost cause? I used the same container soil mix that I’m using for squash, bell peppers, and green beans with no issues.

Tomatoes got more pest and diseases than a New York streetwalker

So I'm finding out. I'm admittedly very new to gardening, my first one was in 2017. I've never had any problems with tomato plants getting blight, leaf curl, etc until this growing season. I got one decent crop of tomatoes with the first planting before blight got them. These plants I'm growing now were Bonnie plants I bought from the local co-op, looked very healthy with no sign of disease when I bought them. It may be too much water, I've had them sitting out so they get watered with each rainfall. Checking the soil about 1-2" deep it doesn't seem waterlogged. Who knows...

Very well could have been a virus

If its tomato curly top virus, jwalker is 100% correct. My early plants got it right after their first heavy fruit set. I left the plants to see what would happen and they did. finally put on lots of new growth. They've grown 4-5 feet since and there isn't a tomato on the new growth.

Yeah being that it’s my last hoorah of the year for trying to grow vegetables I’m just gonna let em ride and see what happens. Is what it is at this point.

Gonna put in the time and resources needed to make sure my in ground garden spot is right and ready for next spring.

Sounds like blight. Exacerbated by rain and humidity. I'm letting everything fallow this year and hope it goes away so I can set out tomatoes next year. The "trick", I'm told is to treat plants with fungicide weekly before symptoms appear. Good luck.

My early tomatoes did it too. Only ever made 1 fruit.

It does look that way, almost exactly the same. Mine looked that way too. So did my tobacco, except for 6 plants. It wasn't 2,4 D, it was leaf curl. Which sucks, because their is no good preventative.

Yeah I tossed these plants out a while back. I think it was accidental herbicide drift More I think about it
