Winter Garden

What do you all plant and when do you plant it?
I have never done a winter garden so just trying to get some tips and ideas.

Collars and turnips, late September. I have heard don't harvest until they get the first frost on them.

Kale is great if youve never ate it. Try frying it in olive oil in an iron skillet instead of boiling it. Then collards but you need to wait till it frosts on collards. Cabbage for fresh sourkraut, about the easiest thing in the world to make. Romaine lettuce is great. If you can get head lettuce to make a head, it is much better than what you get at the grocery store. Ill plant around the middle of september or first of october.

Turnips. I plant in late September seems to keep the early bugs out. North Alabama

We do kale, collards, mustards, we plant english peas in October. That may not work for y'all Yankees.
