Huitlacoche. Mexican truffle. Corn smut. It's edible and tastes good when not overly mature and tough. Fry it up in some oil and throw it in an omelette.

I couldn’t remember the name of it but I planted some NTWF seed corn a few years back and that stuff was all over it. I read that it was edible but I never tried it. You’re a Cajun, I expect a report on flavor. LOL

Yep!!!! My Dad would take the few pieces of corn he'd find like that in his patch and give them to a hispanic coworker who absolutely loved it.
