My wife thinks this is a flower, and I guess it could be

It does make an impressive flower.
We got a stand that looks just like that in our yard. We have found that if you dig up a few bulbs in the middle to eat the stand will not spread but will fill in the middle spot you dug out.
I reckon our stand is going on about 15 years old now.

Thats Elephant Garlic not true garlic in case you didnt know. The bulbs are big and are delicious roasted with some sugar sprinkled and caramelized on it.
