Can't grow a squash to save my life

Can't grow a squash to save my life - 06/10/16 09:54 AM

2nd year in a row that my squash comes in looking great with lots of blooms and growth but no squash. If a plant does begin to make a squash the thing turns into jello before putting on any size.

I've been growing squash since I was 4 years old. smile

One of two things. Either you're having blossom end rot, or they aren't getting pollinated.

Me too Fur. I thought squash grew their self. I did have nematodes on roots one time.

I believe it to be blossom rot because my cuc's are right beside the squash and they produce like crazy. I believe the problem is not enough lime so I'm gonna pull up the bad, add some lime to the soil and replant...3 or 4 plants.

For a quick fix, get powdered milk and pour around the plants, or mix it with water and water them with the mixture.

Yes, I'm serious. It works on tomatoes too.

Calcium or not enough water when they need to take up calcium.

That's crazy. Squash seems to be the easiest thing to grow for us. Seems like I read one time about that happens when they don't get pollinated.

Corn had gave us fits though the last few years.

I can grow squash without even trying to grow squash. My guess is your dirt is the problem. You either got bugs, disease, or the way wrong ph.

X2. I love squash but just quit trying to grow it. So frustrating.

I dropped a seed in the backyard walking to the garden and it sprouted and is producing squash.

I've got a truck load of squash and zucchini along with cucumbers this year.

Back in February I spread a 5x8 trailer load of chicken litter and a bag of lime on my garden spot. I believe it's helping.

Have seen sqaush rot from too much moisture or rain. Hate eating squash, but use to grow for everyone to eat and was easiest to grow of all vegatables. Try buying miracle grow potting soil and plant in pots or 5 gal buckets with holes that way you can rule out soil or soil insect issue.
