You ought to stick with chief. Make him a little Kirk corner notch to hang off his collar.

Re: back in bizness - 01/23/20 05:32 PM

Thanks Billy, he is looking better every day, learns fast and ALWAYS pays attention to me. Liking what I see in a 9 week old for sure.

Re: back in bizness - 01/24/20 12:23 AM

That's great.

Spend every moment you can with him now so that he will get that bond with you nailed down tight.

Picked up my OMC, Sadie, from Oakachoy at 8 weeks old and spent every single minute I could with her from the git go.

She bonded with me and wants to be with me now at 4 years old every step I take.

She almost "runs a wheel off" when I leave her behind at times now.

My wife says if I leave her behind she looks and watches for me every single minute until I return.

Nothing like a great companion dog. thumbup

Re: back in bizness - 01/24/20 01:15 AM

this pup is the same way Billy. If he is asleep and I sneak to the back door he is standing beside me when I get there. Goes everywhere with me, sits on the console of the truck when riding. Already learning stay and sit, comes at a run 90% of the time I call him outside.

Re: back in bizness - 02/26/20 05:35 PM

update on Chief at three months.

he has learned a LOT. He sits and stays on voice or hand commands. Comes on voice, 90% of time on hand command. Stays when I go out of sight and comes on voice command. Loads in the truck on command. He will come and sit facing me when I command "front". Fixing to start heel command work.

He spends at least 2-3 hours a day play fighting and wrestling with wifes 95 pound Beuseron dog...Chief is going to be bad fast and strong from all the exercise. Also it keeps me from looking like a bloody pincushion from those puppy teeth.

Liking what I see....

Very nice Fred, post up a pic when you can. Beautiful dog and sounds like he's smart as a whip.

Re: back in bizness - 02/26/20 11:02 PM

Troy, post up some pics of him periodically so that we can watch him grow up. You're right, all that exercising and rough-housing with your wife's dog everyday will get him strong.

Troy didn't spell it correctly.

He spent a career catching outlaws, not going to spelling bee's.

Beauceron is the correct spelling and it is a herding dog breed that originated in the country of France.

It is pronounced as "Bo Suh Ron".

actually I was pretty sure I didn't spell it right grin but didn't care enough to look it up....

that pic looks exactly like Duke. He and my pup tear the living room up every day for hours.....

Re: back in bizness - 03/03/20 04:21 PM

thanks ya'll. It seems he is growing like a weed in size. He understands the command "load" (truck) but has been too small to make the jump, he just stands with front paws on sideboard. Today he jumped all the way to the seat.

Last night Dylan and I worked him on sit-stay-come in a big parking lot in the dark. He would sit, then stay while Dylan walked away for 50 yards and stood for 30 seconds before giving "come" command. He did it prolly five times flawlessly.

He's getting better at sitting when you give command from distance also.

Re: back in bizness - 05/12/20 09:56 PM

update on my Mal. Chief is prolly 5o pounds now just at 6 months old. Doing real good on commands..sit, stay, come, down, etc. Started him on a bite sleeve..he LIKES to hit that sleeve, and calls off easily. This is much harder to train but he got it right off. Larry is going to post pic of him with my Grandson in a minute.

first pic is grandson Dylan with my TWO Mals. Standing one is Luna, had her for three years, a very well mannered dog..

one laying down is new pup at 6 months, Chief. He's as big or bigger than Luns is. He is a demon, into everything, but very smart.

Everybody NEEDS two Mals

Re: back in bizness - 05/13/20 09:29 PM

BOTH of growing too fast and big. Dylan is 14 end of this month and dang near tall as I am. He wrestles on school team and weightlifts on school team, is strong as an ox.

I'm thinking Chief is going to be close to 85-90 pounds, big Mal.

Funny...Dylan was on the floor roughhousing with Chief and Duke pretty hard. I got up to go to bed, told him to calm it before he got bit. I wasn't in bed five minutes and heard wife yell. Her Beuceron had missed Chief and bit Dylans arm, broke skin top and bottom. Dog was apologetic and curled up on Dylans feet all day the next day. LOL

Re: back in bizness - 07/04/20 12:58 AM

Friend of mine is a Tuscaloosa county sheriff. He got a malinois a couple months ago and they have been going through the police dog training. He sent me a video the other day of another dog in the program hitting him, my buddy had a bite suit on, it bruised the crap out of his arm immediately. It was impressive the power that dog had.

Re: back in bizness - 07/04/20 05:59 PM

my wife used to catch my first Mal, Taz. She said right up front she ain't catching Chief EVER. Started him on some bite work, dang if he don't like to bite HIGH up, shoulder and such.

Re: back in bizness - 07/05/20 06:28 PM

yes sir, that was a Malingator bite.

Last bite my wife ever made was in teaching Taz to apprehend out of a vehicle. I had a night hunting suspect, driver, jump out of a moving vehicle. LOL, he bounced like a ball and rolled into a ditch. I pulled right up on top of him and he tried to get up and run into the woods. I sent Taz to bite him. She was all excited and smashed into the windshield...straight line right??? LOL I had to toss her out the door to get her aligned.
My bad, lack of training on ANY possibility. So I had Mel sleeve up and sent Taz from the truck as Mel ran. Pro tip: ALWAYS keep one eye on the dog. Taz had trouble again exiting the truck and Mel kept running. You do NOT want to catch an excited Mal after she has run 100 yards to get to you. Taz launched 20 feet out and hit Mel top of shoulder(off the sleeve) slap Taz stayed attached as Mel did a full two flips in the air, not touching ground till she face planted on second cycle....Taz still attached to shoulder above the sleeve. No, I do not have video but it was damn impressive. Mel finally regained her feet and threw the sleeve fifty feet and stomped off to the house, declaring NO MORE DECOY WORK FOR HER.
Mel was bruised much worse than that pic and stayed mad for a week.

Gotta love a Malingator

Re: back in bizness - 07/21/20 09:29 PM

had to take Chief to the vet today to close up a cut he got on his flank. He ran into a fence post while chasing my female Mal Luna. Dumbass. anyway, everybody ought to have a drunk Mal, took him a couple of hours for the Telezol to wear off, pretty funny looking when he is high as a kite. LOL Weighed 72 pounds at the vet btw.

Re: back in bizness - 07/21/20 11:44 PM

I have never handled or trained a Mal that did not act like a crackhead. That’s what makes them such great working dogs
Posted By: BhamFred

Re: back in bizness - 07/22/20 02:18 AM

B, I have a 4 year old female Mal that is just a sweet house pet, little to no drive. But that is what I wanted her for, knew it when I got her at 18 months old.

When I was at the vets today one of the techs said they had a client couple who had a 5 year old male Mal they that were absolutely scared of, didn't have ANY kind of handle on that dog at all. Who in hell wants a dog like that, they would do good to get rid of that dog before one of them gets bit badly. A Mal with aggression issues is a ticking time bomb.

Re: back in bizness - 07/22/20 02:35 AM

My last dog I worked was a Belgian Tervuren he was a Schz III. He was a Mal with long hair. I then worked several over seas and a Mal is hands down the go to working dog. They are definitely not for everyone, especially as a pet. Gotta have a job. It’s very rare to find one that’s chill so you should feel lucky with Luna. Looks like your Maligator has some good grips. Need to get your agitator a harder sleeve

Re: back in bizness - 08/31/20 01:03 PM

he isn't real sure about them yet, only third time he has had them on. He will get used to them.

He is finally getting faster on his obedience work. Protection training is coming along...I had a stranger walk up to him Sat and he was bouncing up and down and barking. Gotta hit that fine line between "bite your azz" and you can pet him.
Posted By: abolt300

Re: back in bizness - 08/31/20 07:12 PM

That's a very fine line but I'm sure he has it in him. He's a great looking dog. Will he end up being bigger than TAZ?
Posted By: BhamFred

Re: back in bizness - 09/01/20 01:42 AM

he's at 74+ right now, Taz was at 65 when working. She was faster than Chief but he is pretty athletic too. Taz liked to go airborne 20 feet out and hit shoulder high. Chief runs in close and goes UP like a rocket, very hard to defend or even catch on a sleeve.
