New to Dog Hunting! I have Questions! - 11/22/17 08:39 PM

So. Not only am I new to dog hunting, but this is my first year hunting in general. I am interested in (and am actively trying to participate in) as many forms of hunting as possible so that i can learn the skills, as well as determine which style i like most and wanna sink my efforts and resources into. I love dogs and relish the idea of being able to see them using their God given assets in the field. Consequently, I have more than a few questions about dog hunting but i will try to keep it brief for now.

The Upper Delta WMA Permit Map has dates set aside for Zone B (Dog) Nov 20-25. My question(s) are:

Is a hunter required to use dogs during those dates? Or can i simply stalk hunt simultaneously as the dog runners?

I hope to go out there on the 25th if only to observe but would prefer to do my own hunting as well. Is there an etiquette to be observed in this scenario? Is there a possibility of being a “walk-on” to someone’s dog hunt crew?

I appreciate your attention and guidance.

First season I’ve done it, and it’s a hoot. Almost more like rabbit hunting than deer,

Anyone going to the dog hunt Friday morning at the Upper Delta WMA? Although I have been hunting for almost 40 years, I have never participated in a dog hunt. I talked to the biologist and he said I should get there early and try to join a group. It sure would be nice to have a group already lined up before I get there. Anyone need a stander?
