Or, maybe it is. What say you guys? What is it on the smaller buck's side?
These were from earlier this week

These are of the same deer about a month ago...you can see the lump just starting to grow.

My 15 yr old daughter has already told me I better not shoot him while she's at school...she wants to be the one to shoot him. He's a pretty good buck for around here.

Got something stuck under his hide , stick , thorn ? It's a pus pocket around infection site . Our herd bull had a similar one , vet lanced it , and you wouldn't believe what came out of it . He washed it out with a garden hose and gave him some antibiotics. Maybe it will rupture ; but I don't want to see what comes out of it ! 😳🤢

I'm gonna keep an eye on him and see what it does...him and the bigger buck are coming in the backyard like clockwork everyday.

When that thing pops, stinky cheese is going everywhere

I killed one a few years ago that apparently had one that had just ruptured, or had a puncture injury that got infected. The smell literally almost made me vomit. He smelled like he had been dead for a week in the middle of august. He went straight to the gut pit.

Wonder if he spooked when he smelled what came out when it did finally pop? Had to be pretty foul. Good thing is that is appears to be healing up well and within a few weeks it will be like it never happened.

Should be good if the flies don't lay eggs in it and the maggots work on it .

Looks like its taking care of itself. He will have a good little pocket to put his change in.

I have heard vets say maggots are a good thing if no meds are being given. Natural way of treating the infection. It makes sense to me.

Yes the maggots only eat dead tissue so only the living remains with aids in healing
