I've killed several deer over a gut pile where I'd killed one the day before

Study in TX years ago showed deer were the most often to show up first at a gut pile. Paying their respects while becoming the next victim.

Put a bucket of guts under a hay barn till the next day and there were deer tracks right up to the bucket the next morning from deer checking it out!
