Trail cam pics... - 10/26/18 05:48 PM

I let this first guy go 3 times last year hoping he'd really be a good one this year. Not what I'd hoped, but not bad I don't guess. The left side just didn't develop well, same as last year, but he did add one point to make it 9. The rack is distinctive enough that I know it's the same deer. I say he's 4.5yrs and at that age, I don't care much what he's got for antlers, but it's his time if I get him in the crosshairs.

This next guy looks like a hog, but doesn't wear much for horns. He may be, but I can't tell for sure, one that was a 7pt last year that I let go several times. He lives in the same place as the guy above, and I hunt this area a lot.

THIS guy! I wan't this one. I have not spent much time in this area of my club, but will be this year. I have him at 2 different feeders about a half mile apart so I got a pretty good idea where he's living, at least for now anyway.

The one you want is the youngest you posted. Kill the 1st two who are both over 5 and leave the 4 yr old for another couple years imo.

Ill shoot the first one if I get a chance. This is him last year.

I'll probably leave the 2nd one for someone else.

Number 3, Ill take for sure, IF I get a chance.

IMO, they are all "shooters". We don't manage heavily. 8pt or better is the rule. We strongly suggest letting younger deer walk, but it's not a rule. Even if we were managing for 4.5 year olds or older, these are all at least 4.5. I have a lot of mature bucks that are shooters that I can scheme to outwit. I'm grateful for that. Wishing for that shonuff big daddy is just that, hoping and wishing. I got a nice one last year...one that will be hard to top any time soon.

Got these two on cam too.

All good deer for Alabama. If you like, shoot them when you see them or someone else who is less selective might, or they run into ghosts once the pressure from rifle season starts. If it is a good deer to you, it is a good deer. I am just as happy for other club members who shoot deer I have willingly passed hoping they will get a year older. We will grow some more and happy members who stay in the club is better that replacing them.
