4 months in the making - 12/15/18 05:04 AM

I bought a Hawken kit for a summer project finally put finishing touches on it traditional rust browned barrel 10 coats of hand rubbed oil finish hand polished all the brass and then aged it a little to knock the shine off cant wait to shoot it but now I think I gotta spend more on shooting supplies than I spent on the rifle

My parents kept the one dad and I built 40 yrs ago at 16 in the back of a closet. She gave it to me before passing. I really was bad at finishing that thing but it’s a prized possession.

I got my kit off gunbroker for $150 if you decide to get one to do with your son shoot me a PM I'll send you the laurel mountain barrel brown and tru oil stock finishing kit I used there is still enough to do another gun or two. best thing to do is let the kid sand and polish all the brass, inlettingthe stock and shaping it to fit flush with all the pieces is a PITA and you only get one chance to get it right. you can always take more away but you cant put it back. then let him rub the oil coats on it'll take 2 weeks to do the oil finish right and about a week to rust brown the barrel.

Looks great GKelly! One of these days I'll have to show you some flintlocks my step-father built. He was a true craftsman.

I hope you get a lot of enjoyment out of shooting it and just flat out looking at it knowing you put it all together.
