I water drop all of my bullets straight from the mold. I powder coat so probably not necessary, but I like how they shoot. Started doing it with my 454 Casull with standard lube but kept doing it. Hollow points fragment and the base will go deep!

Properly sized bullets hard enough to withstand the pressure of the round will not lead at all with standard lube. 454 loaded to full pressure has a shiny clean bore with only a patch run through it. No leading with 223, 308 or 45-70 either using wheel weights.

If you can find the book by Veral Smith about cast bullets get it. Lots of info.

Back when I cast I always quenched as a matter of cooling bullets so I could inspect them in much less time than natural cooling. Is my mold too hot or not filling etc etc. Hardening was just an added bonus. I was always extra mindful of water near molten lead as that is about the only drawback of quenching.

I quench buckshot right out of the oven after powder coating. Works well for me
