7mm rem Mag RL22 recipes - 01/07/20 05:41 PM

Looking to work up a load with my 7 with RL22 because H1000 has became impossible to find. I’ll be using 168 Berger VLD. Has anyone used this combination and what are you running? I plan on working up to about 66, but if anyone is over that, I’ll load a few over to see. Just don’t want to waste extra powder and wanted to see what everyone was averaging with theirs. Thanks in advance.

It depends a lot on the gun. I shoot 168 VLD over H1000 now but a used to shoot 140 Accubonds over R22. I my gun has a long throat and I was @ 5 grains over max load in the Nosler guide for that combo and was getting @ 3250 FPS with 140s. I've maxed out at @ 65 gr r22 under 160 Accubonds loading a friend's rifle. Bolt got a little sticky above that and velocity was @ 3000 FPS.

Each rifle is a law unto itself. 61 grains may work in Au338's rifle and mine max out at 58.5. And yes that small a variance can will and has increase pressure.

I’m well aware of load work up, just was wondering if anyone has used more than 65 with the 168 VLD

I'm guessing if you load 65 gr under a 168 gr you may want to bring something to the range to help you open the bolt. 😀😀

R22 is a great powder for the 7 mag, but it has issues with lot to lot variations and temperature sensitivity. I still use it in a 300 Weatherby and had to back off my previous load of 86 gr under a 168 TTSX to 83 gr due to lot inconsistency. I would start around 61 grains and work up.

Thanks sir. I’m actually going to start at 60. Quick Load is showing 66. Probably won’t make it that far, but don’t want to get to 65 with no pressure signs and wish I would have brought more.
