308win with 150gr Partition or Accubonds - 11/27/19 12:49 AM

So I just got a good supply of 150gr Partitions and Accubonds and plan on trying to find a good load for them. I have a pretty good selection of powders to try in the usual flavors. But where should I start?
I have Varget but have never seemed to find it very accurate anything that I tried it in.
I do have
IMR4064
RL15
RL17
IMR4895
3031
BLC2
And probably a few others
These are going to be for hunting whitetails and hogs velocity in the 2700+ range is preferred and I'll be satisfied with 1" or better groups.

No I haven't even look at my load data books, but these are powders I know should work well in the 308

TAC works very good with 150 gr bullets in the 308.

Of those you listed, I would try R15 or BLc2. R17 is too slow for light bullets in 308.

Go with the 4895 and accubonds. 3031 is underrated as a powder. Save that 4064 till you get a .35 Whelen you'll thank me then.

Rl15 is definitely top choice for 308 then 4064 and 4895.but your gun and bullet choice will dictate which if those shoot best.If I could only have one rifle powder it would be rl15 it's not temp sensitive at all compared to alot if powders.rl15 will get a 150gr bullet going pretty damn fast only thing faster would be a newer powder like cfe223 which is great also. All 3 are great for 308 I'd make a 6-9 round batch of each and find out.good luck.

I got better velocity with Varget than I did with RL15, but that was with 165 grain Partitions and Accubonds.

I load 46.2 of Varget behind a 150 NBT. 46.5 was accurate and fast, but I was getting flattened primers and short brass life. Varget is my go to powder in 22-250, 308, and 300 WSM unless I am loading 270/280/30-06 then it's IMR4350.

Big 4895 fan here. I used it when Varget got scarce.

For a 308 in the 150-165 bullet range, I suggest you try IMR-4064 and RL-15

I like TAC for light for caliber bullets in a 308
