300 Savage - 04/16/18 01:30 AM

I was going through my reloading supplies and found a box with 6 boxes of 300 Savage hulls. I re-sized and re-primed them. I'm looking at recipe's in Nosler, Hornady & Lyman books and to say I'm confused is an understatement. The specs are all over the place. Does anyone have a recipe they're willing to share please? I'm interested in 125 and 150 weight bullets to start. I have both Nosler & Hornady's. Thanks in advance.

I am not super familiar with the 300 Savage, but with most old cartridges you seem to have data for old guns and therefore lower pressures generally(300 savage was made for the model 99). The 6.5 Swede is like this. Modern propellants transform it into a great cartridge. Most of the time the data you see is knocked down as a CYA for the company.

Here's a few threads from another forum I am on.

Look at the Speer 130 and Varget.
The 300 was used in 308's development so your usual suspects H4895 Imr 3031 etc.

A lot of the recipe's I'm seeing are with these 2 powders. I've found a couple using IMR 4064 and BLC2 that I have plenty of so that's where I'm going to start I believe.
