Chase the link to my first group ever shot at 1000 yards. Went 5 for 6 on the steel. Rem 700 VS 308. 168 gr sierra tipped match kings, over 46.0 gr of Varget. 2720 ft/sec.

Guy shooting next to me complimented my shooting, and mentioned that my handloads must be top knotch. I agreed with him on both accounts.. hahaha!

Your rifle factory? Whats your OAL? I get flattened primers and sticky bolts with 46.5 Varget and 150s.

It's factory... a VS model. The gun has a ridiculously long throat, I can't remember the measurement for OAL, but it's very long.. I know it's over 3". I can check this evening from my loading log. I'm only using about half the neck to seat the bullets (the boat tail portion extends deeper into the case, but doesn't impact the neck).

I haven't seen any pressure signs from any of the rounds I've shot. I have an almost identical in speed and POI recipe with 4064 that I shot interchangeably yesterday. I also have shot BL-C2 out of it well, and is a hair faster (2760), but it worries me with the heat sensitive reputation it has.

At that OAL you must not be concerned with loading the magazine.
My Remington 308 starts to have a sticky bolt lift at 44.8 grains of Varget under a 168 grain AMAX. My 168 AMAX load has OAL 2.834 and 2670 fps with 44.2 grains of R15. IIRC the freebore is .142 at that OAL. Remington and their long throats. Gun will shoot 1/2" but would probably do better without all that freebore.

You are right AU...I can only put one in the mag (tilts upward on the business end, clearing the front edge of the mag). I have them seated just off the lands, again, I can't remember the number. It's all in my load book at home. Seems like it's maybe a hundredth off?

I don't mind it being a 'two-shot' rifle for good groups. I haven't experimented with deeper seating. I may could find something else it likes, and be able to load the mag, but for right now, this is working well.

I knew they had to be wayyyyy out there with that charge. Regardless, fine load and great shooting.

I run 46 gr of varget and do not have any issues with pressure, my ogive length is 2.205" on 168 Amax.

This is exactly why I'd like to build a long action .308

Congrats on the excellent handloads!

Kind words, WC. I appreciate it.

Two shot rifles are cool too! If you don't mind holding the one in the magazine down out of the way, while the bolt pushes the one in the chamber forward.

So, I nearly forgot about the OAL of my loads some of you were curious about. Went back to my notes...

My Remmy has a pretty long throat, and using 168 TMK's, I have a chamber length ogive of 2.320"

My COAL (ogive) is 2.305. That is giving me 0.015" of jump... and that's where she likes everything.
