300 BLK loads ? - 08/27/15 03:37 PM

Anyone have any light weight loads for 300 BLK they want to share? Im building 300 BLK with 1-8 twist and 16 inch barrel. I have a 8.25 pistol that shoots the heavys. So I need loading data for 110- 150s in carbine length.

I loaded some 125gr sierra sp's flat base, over 17 grains of IMR4227, cci sr primer, fiocci 300blk brass. Shot out of a Remington 700 aac-sd 16" heavy barrel. Right around 1950fps and about 1 moa to 1.5 moa out of my rifle at 100 yards. Probably could shoot alot better with a little tweaking. I did not fireform the brass, I just FL sized it. Next load I will be working up is for 110 gr hornady sp's at 2300fps.

I don't have IMR 4227 BUT I do have H-4227,H-110., and RL-7. I hear W296 is suppost to be good for lightweights. My main goal is going to be to shoot 110 V-Maxs and 110 Barnes. I will be using 09 LC brass since I have a 5 gallon bucket of it! grin

17 gr of 296 with a 125 NBT has done well for me. Just picked up some 110 and 130 barnes that I gonna see what I can make them do. From all reports H110 and W296 are basically the same.

The hornady book actually only list H-4227 but if you go to the hogdon site it list the IMR4227 as well. They are almost identical from what I understand. The h4227 should do fine. If you have any LIL GUN or H110, they also work really good in the light stuff. All of my testing has been with a bolt gun. But I just got a radical arms upper that I will be shooting soon. So some of my loads will change I am sure.

H110 works very well with the lightweights: on 125 gr. NBT's I get 2115 fps with 17.0 grains to 2215 with 18.0 grains, 16" 1:8 barrel.
With 110 gr. TAC-TX 20.0 grains will get 2375 fps, 19.0 grains gets 2275 from 16" 1:7 barrel, have not chrono'd the 1:8 with these yet. Nosler 110 grain Varmageddon loads are similar and shoot very well also.

Most of these loads with CCI 450

Sounds like a sweet set up. Pretty close to my 5.56 set up. Magpul stock and grip, hardened arms 5.56 upper vortex red dot (no thermal for me..... yet).
I have the same set up for my 300 blk except I used a radical arms roundrail upper.

Thanks. I have had really good luck with Hardened Arms. Except for their slow shipping, they are nice! I have built 3 in the past year. Sold 2 of them to friends. Keep the 8.25 pistol because it shoots the heavies so well.

I found a 300 BLK forum online. Its pretty good. LilGun,H-110, and AA1680 are the top 3 accoeding to a online poll. H-110 seams to work well with everything from 110-220s!

H110 does work well it is just hard to find, and I have yet to see a can of AA1680 anywhere. I can find lil gun on occasion and I can get pretty much all the imr 4227 I want. Keep us posted on your loads.

I have been reading about W296 . Its suppose to be the same burn rate. I have 4 cans of H-110 and 3 cans of W296. H-110 and W-296 are suppose to work well wth 110-220s , we will see! grin

Got my new 300 BLK Upper from Hardened Arms today. 1-8 twist H-bar barrel. Started with 18.2 grs of W296, CCI 400 primers, PNW Brass, and 110 V-Maxs. Loaded 2.100 OAL . 2200 FPS. Was using Aimpoint Comp2 with a 4 MOA dot . Got 1/2 inch groups at 50 yards. Going to see about more speed 2morrow but for now I have a good load with the 110 V-Max thumbup

Re: 300 BLK loads ? - 09/03/15 04:27 PM

Have you tried Shooter's Warehouse in Cullman for powder? I haven't been by in a few months, but they had the best selection of powder and other reloading supplies I've seen in a long time and I've been searching in every sporting goods spot I can find from here to West Virginia. Looked for A1680 for two years and finally found it there. They had cases of it last time I was there. And it does work as advertised. It will cycle heavy subsonics in a carbine gas gun where H110 and Imr 4227 are iffy. A5744 works also. Both are a little louder through a suppressor. I've never tried either for supersonic loads though, 110 and 4227 are easier to find and both work well.

I highly recommend Shooter's Warehouse. I run Lil Gun for both subs and supers. I have a bolt gun.

Just got threw doing some night shoot with AR-15 pistol at AR-500 steel targets from 25 yards out to 150 yards. Worked up a new load. It really hammers! 1x Full sized PNW Brass, 400 CCI primers, 155 gr Bergers, with 16 grs of W296 with OAL of 2.150 . Fits and works well out of Green Gen 2 P-Mags! thumbup
