Trap Dips

For all you experienced trappers out there, what are your thoughts on the various dips such as full metal jacket, speed dip, etc for brand new traps vs logwood dye?

If you were going to use fmj on brand new traps would you clean them, dry, then dip? Or clean them, get a light coat of rust and then dip like you would if using dye?

I have used full metal jacket on my land traps for the last 3 years. easy to re-treat, just pressure wash, dip, and let dry for 24 hours. i think all treatments adhere better to a light coat of rust.

So is there anything wrong with this method for new traps:

Hit them with a pressure washer to get the oil off, run them for a little while until I get a light coat of rust, pull em and pressure wash, dip in FMJ and hang for 24 hours.

Seems a lot of this just becomes personal preference over time.

I’m not against the traditional dye and wax method if it’s truly worth it vs the more simple dip treatments.

Not to high jack but for new canine traps, has anyone had any issues with vinegar soak, pressure wash, baking soda then Just spray painting? Of course hanging traps for a week or so to air out
