Pocket set Bait for Coons - 02/10/21 06:23 PM

Going to try some pockets sets this yr with duke 1.5s. Will the normal marshmallow/cat food work as bait for that or what has worked best for you? Any tips are welcome for this set. Also how deep of water should the trap set in? I know it has to be covered by water but how deep is too deep?

I found a coon bait recipe in a trapping magazine that I have had good luck with on pipe sets and cubby sets. Couple of can of jack mackeral, a cup of cornmeal, and enough fish oil to make a sticky paste. Loud smell and works good. I would'nt think you would want your trap over 5-6 inches deep, 1-2 inches is ideal.

Sounds good I thought about using a fish based bait. I don’t guess dry cat food is strong enough smell for a pocket set?
