Going to try and thin the herd a bit, know I'll never make a major dent but seems like it will be fun to do as well on the property. Got some DP traps on the way. What do you guys do with your coons?

Sell a few when time/temps allow. Usually $8-10 each unskinned.

They are going for 4-5 bucks up here. I leave them in the woods. Not worth messing with to me.

Got a buddy across the river that likes coons. He will take 3-4 at a time. The rest go on a burn pile.

Sometimes a dp will break the leg, especially if it doesn't have enoughswivels, or they get kinked up and they will twist the arm off. I always check traps at first light to minimize as much time in the trap as I can but I know everyone can't do that and sometimes it happens anyway. My guess is that's what happened.

Charlie bet your right. Trap has 2 swivels on chain but he had it wrapped around a tree big time. I use wire to attach to tree then to trap.

Skinning them out is pretty easy. It is preparing the hide that takes time. I know a couple hard core coon hunters. They love it for the sport. But the hides at least pay the fuel costs.

I have eaten it as BBQ and in stews and veggie soups. Not bad.....if it isn't an old boar.

Putting up a coon is a lot of work for $5.

Shoot em in the head, throw em in the bushes.

A guy I know kills them and hangs them in the bushes above the water at the river. Maggots will be falling off of it during warm days and he catches fish like crazy. Brings in the bream, which brings in the larger fish.
