Nothing like a young stupid beaver to make you look good with a first night catch. Hoping the rest of the colony are as gullible as this one.

They had a dam inside this 84" culvert. Property owners had fenced it off with wire but they were going under it. I redone the fencing with a cattle panel and tied their fencing to it to block it off. Cut a hole the size of a 330 in the panel over their run. Was hoping they didn't take a stick through the trap when investigating where all of their water went.

Everytime I've seen folks try to fence out beavers the fence is turned into a damn. Hope you catch them all before they get square shy.

I've got another one back up in a run that leads into it. There's no where to set up a foothold on a downer which is what I wanted. May try a snare in the run if they avoid it.

I'm guessing the females are still denned up with pups ?

You don't have to drown them K. The last job I did was similar, only about a foot of water and beavers would cut a trail around a conibear. I went back and set up on the most used trail entering the ditch with a steel trap on a 60" anchor and caught 3 or 4 in as many nights.

This was the setup I'm talking about. I anchored off up on the bank and threw a little mud over the cable going to the trap.

Worked like a charm!

Thanks for the info. There's been zero activity since the first night. Further up the branch is a fish pond but there is no new activity around it either. I'm going to walk the branch from the road to the pond this weekend looking for more sign. I know there's got to be more beaver there and I'm betting they're in between the two spots.

As hot as it's been they aren't going to leave the water much. Never do in the summer time. More vegetation in the water for them to feed on and they just get sluggish.

Snared this one at a fish pond up the branch from the Culvert. They've been in this pond for a while. Lots of girdles trees. Pretty sure this pond is the incubator for all of their problems. There's one bank den in the pond but I'm not fooling with it.

Hope they keep using this crossover on the dam, it makes it easier to target them.

I set a Bridger #5 in front of the culvert dam and a snare where they are going around a 330 in the run above the road.

Another big Male at the culvert.

I'm really liking these Bridger #5's. Held with just 3 toes but I'm pretty sure given enough time he would have pulled out. Extension cable is 1/8 and took a beating. Think I may need to add a swivel in the middle.

Another big Male at the pond dam this morning, #5 on a drowning cable. No pics, property manager made the check for me today.
