Sandhill Cranes Recap - 02/02/21 04:36 PM

I'm not sure how many of you received tags, but this was a heck of an opportunity. I've always enjoyed hunting geese and larger birds more than ducks, so this was a nice addition.

Here's some photos of different hunts, and although I only filled two tags, it was a season to remember.

I now know why they call them ribeye of the sky! So good.

Went back to the mud flats to try on the final day of the season.

I had a little more time this time and I decided to take as much as I could. Took the legs and thighs for tacos. Both breasts. The heart and the liver. I might make a paté with the liver.

Thinking about making a bookend.

As mentioned above, these bands were given to hunters by ADCNR to tag the birds immediately upon harvest. So it told me I got one!

This may be a dumb question but anyhoo.....where do you aim to kill these guys? Head? Body? Just curious. Thanks

I was told to shoot at the head by another hunter.

Put crosshairs where neck meets body. Squeeze trigger

Head preferably to avoid meat loss. As the season went on, anywhere was an option.

Yep you only get a few shots and you want to bring home some meat.
