Anyone have any experience hunting ducks on Neely Henry? Am I understanding correctly that we cannot be outside of the boat while holding a gun? Does this apply to the entire lake? Thanks.

That applies to pretty much every waterway in Alabama unless it is corps land, tva, or wma on the banks

You can get out of the boat and put deks out, retrieve a duck or goose, help your dog out if you have one. But, one caveat, leave the gun in the boat. APCO considers it recreation just like during the summer when people use island to hang out. Soon as you put a gun in your hand and step on their land, it is trespassing.

I live on Neely and grew up here. We never had an issue with this until early 90s when McCamy started enforcing the hell out of it and cut many tickets because of it. APCO was named in a court case (if I remember right) where flood waters would get over private property. Duck hunters would then take advantage of this and hunt peoples pastures, swamps etc because they were accessible from a navigable & public waterway. Standing in the water on private land, even though accessible because of the flood waters, was ruled as trespassing. APCO started enforcing this and mainly on duck hunters.

If I got the above info wrong on the court case, someone jump in and correct me. Mind aint what it used to be!
