Dove reports? - 08/08/20 01:59 AM

I’m a lowly spike but y’all post up what y’all are seeing. Lots of corn will be cut in the next few weeks but it will be interesting to see what’s showing up and how they are moving. I only tip is have some bare disced dirt showing but I’m just a spike lol

Re: Dove reports? - 08/29/20 12:35 AM

I’ve now had 4.6” rain in last 2 weeks at my farm. Not complaining one bit. No way to keep food from turning green. I did gramoxone it all yestrday had a total crop failure. Will have to replant next week when rain leaves out
Posted By: wk2hnt

Re: Dove reports? - 08/29/20 04:03 AM

Total crop failure. Lol that is a normal agricultural occurrence to tell the conservation officer. Run the disc and spread more wheat
Posted By: wk2hnt

Re: Dove reports? - 08/29/20 04:05 AM

But I’m just a spike so I might not know

So Very sorry to hear about your wheat crop failure Matt. I know you're upset about it. Once you replant, I’d highly recommend protecting that new seed from birds until it germinates. If they show up in large flocks and you’re having trouble keeping them off it, you’ve got my number. I’d be happy to drive up and help you

It’s flooding up here again.
Posted By: abolt300

Re: Dove reports? - 08/31/20 03:27 PM

I feel your pain Matt. We got almost 5" down here this past weekend. Every free moment I've had to cut my grass for the past 3 weeks, it's been flooding. Told the wife if this continues, I'll have to drive to the camp and get the tractor and bushhog and trailer it down here cause the lawn mower wont be able to handle it. How long y'all think ti will take to cut the saint augustine grass around the house on a .6 acre lot with a 8' cutter. I'm figuring not more than 5 min and that's counting on having to be careful of fences, irrigation, trees and landscaping. LOL

Re: Dove reports? - 09/01/20 04:51 PM

Missouri bootheel hunt was pretty good until the rain hit at 9am. Took my son for his first dove hunt and he got 5 so that's not bad though I think he shot a box and a half of shells. But it was his first time shooting anything in the air. Might go for another limit tomorrow.

Re: Dove reports? - 09/02/20 11:38 PM

Monday and Tuesday I had ZERO. Today some are back. Flushed about 50 when I drove up to my little spot. And I mean little spot. This is gonna be a father-son, father-daughter hunt. My spot is about 20 feet wide and 50 feet long. We gonna all sit side by side, laugh, shoot and laugh some more. I have wanted to get them on a good dove shoot for a long time and it's never worked out. I doubt I'll fire a shot and this will be my favorite dove hunt ever. I hope that front Friday doesn't push em out, but it probably will. We aren't shooting this spot Saturday anyway.

Re: Dove reports? - 09/03/20 03:08 AM

They was a couple thousand a day or 2 ago in snead...$300 a hunter tho....ill get all I'm supposed to have for free tho...i aint paying to shoot a bird unless im buying quail or going to Argentina

Re: Dove reports? - 09/03/20 03:38 AM

The group that was here in the bootheel left or wasn't flying much this evening. Shot 7 in about an hour before the rain came back but there were about 5% flying compared to yesterday morning.

I've tripled the population in a week. I had one dove, now I have three.

I saw 17 this evening on a field that's being prepped. It's been too dang wet to disc for weeks. By tomorrow evening the field will be ready, though.

Truck is packed and I’ll be heading to Auburn. 2pm EST tomorrow! Got a hunt in Dallas co sat, and Lee co Sunday. Been going to both for a long time and they’re guaranteed limits. Both have reported they have more doves than normal years. I anticipate a sore shoulder

And one day later I have well over 150 here. Probably will all be gone after the front come through tomorrow night.

Re: Dove reports? - 09/06/20 02:24 AM

Congrats of the good shoots guys. Had a few hundred yesterday afternoon and we picked up around 40 with about 20 lost in the beans. When I went out this morning at 430 and felt the wind direction change I had a bad feeling. Another one of our places had good success with over 100 birds picked up between adults and kids. Time to disc

Re: Dove reports? - 09/21/20 06:44 PM

I went back to a friend of mine's place up close to Oneonta this past Saturday. Hardly anything was flying due to the previous cool front and hurricane stuff out there. I think I shot 3 times all day.
Opening day they flew pretty decent there.

Just top sewed a field in Florida. Season don’t open until this up coming Saturday here. Dove were landing in the other end of the field as we were finishing. Don’t know if I’ll even be able to hunt it, but I hope someone does.
