New to Waterfowl - 12/30/19 03:35 AM

Have been following aldeer for a while now and finally decided to jump in. With that said I have began duck hunting this season and have yet to have success. I’ve been hunting public land and have seen a handful of wood ducks just can’t get anything to come in. I’ve considered doing a guided hunt somewhere but have decided I want to try and get a few here first. All in all I’m really enjoying trying to figure it out so much so that I have hardly even deer hunted this year.

To hunt wood ducks, you pretty much have to be where they want to go. Also. While standing in the water in flooded timber,. Move your leg back and forth to make ripples. Makes ducks think another duck is in there already

Scout timber type holes and flooded creeks and see where you jump some wood ducks. Hunt there in the mornings

I’ll add that when you find the woodies, there’s a good chance other ducks will want to be there too. Forget trying to call wood ducks in.. they have a one track mind. You just need to be where they want to be.

Yep - think of scouting for turkeys --- gotta be where they want to go .

Don't just do a guided hunt, find a guy that might take you with him. We've enjoyed helping many newcomers share our blind. Then, the next year or two he becomes another guy we are contending with, don't become that guy.
