Which Do Y'all Prefer?

Which Do Y'all Prefer? - 12/19/19 08:40 PM

Over the years I've heard these two things:

— Sunny, clear days with a little wind - just enough for ripples and to move the dekes - is the best, especially with a northwest wind

— Cloudy days that knock off the shine and glare with a little wind - for ripples and to move the dekes - is the best, especially with a northwest wind

What say you?

Either one as long as we have birds. Dont matter what the conditions are if they ain't here!

A good wind is better than a slight wind. Easier for the birds to make up their mind

I like a sunny bluebird day in the timber, and an overcast day in fields

They seem to spot You.....Movement....things wrong...etc. and Flare on a Cloudy Day no matter where you are hunting. Plus....on a sunny day if hunting in the timber you can stand in the shadows and be still and they'll hardly ever spot you.

This the majority of the time but have had some great shoots on a dreary rainy day . Heck we had a terrific shoot a couple years ago in December with no wind , 75 degrees and the White River out of its banks and no dry land anywhere so who knows I guess .

Has that right feel to it.

We shot field Mallards and then Canada geese in thunder snow, that was an incredible Wisconsin hunt!!!
The guy calling killed a Greater Snow, first snow goose he'd ever seen in WI.

If we are talking about central bama, I like it cloudy and cold. The woodies seem to stay flying a little longer when it’s real overcast. If in arky I like clear and cold with a good wind. Bust the ice out of the timber hole and get ready.

At this point in my life, I prefer any day I can go. Between work, wife, kids and life's other distractions, I don't hunt the weather anymore I hunt when I can go. Hunting in Alabama mostly for woodrows, I like cold and clear. I'll take the same in AR, TN, MS or some snow.

Windy and raining is by far the best duck hunting up here and in Alaska. Sun's out, blue bird day, BORING!

Two things come to mind of day's past.

Sunny the birds seem to be more responsive to calling
Cloudy rainy days tend to work better with less and softer calling.

Days on the river when it’s 10-12 degrees and ice forms around the little islands. Those days are golden.

. Agreed!!!!!!!-----

We've all killed them on any type day --- One of the best day's I remember, was standing on the other side of the decoys with my dad shooting ducks as they passed. It was so foggy, we couldn't see the outside dekes, we could hear them whizzing by, so my dad got us out of the blind. We had to have our guns up as they passed, because we couldn't get our guns up fast enough because they were on us before we could see them. Ahhh, memories!!!!!!

It could be where you hunt, are you hunting the inter-coastal, a river creek, an out of the way hole, etc.
