Waterfowl Prohibited Shotguns

Waterfowl Prohibited Shotguns - 10/07/19 08:26 AM

So we’ve been in a discussion at work about hunting waterfowl and what shotguns. One says it’s legal to hunt ducks with a .410. I say BS and looked it up. It’s says prohibited to hunt waterfowl with anything smaller than a 10ga. I’m confused as to how that’s being read. Of course .410 is a smaller gun but going by the gauge only an 8ga would be illegal. So is the .410 prohibited or not to hunt ducks?

Look again. What I have always remembered, no gauge larger than 10ga using non-toxic shot, no centerfire or rim fire. But, I have been wrong before.

I don’t think a 410 is prohibited

There was a place in AR that used smaller gauge guns. I heard but don’t know for sure they had a 410 hole cause the ducks were so close. Could of been a myth but then again this place was an awesome duck club.

After reading it over and over it says no gun smaller than 10ga, meaning 8ga. A 410 is actually a caliber and I still haven’t seen anything saying it’s prohibited. I thought for sure it was but I guess it’s legal.

I think I was misinterpreting what it was saying.

True. My main question was about the 410 but I think I answered my own question.

.410 is legal for waterfowl. Smaller gauge equals bigger gun. Don’t overthink it.

True dat...Greenbriar Hunting Club has a greentimber hole where only 410 guns are shot. John Olin (of Winchester fame) hunted her and the hole is named the Winchester Hole.
