Dove season. Second split. - 11/07/18 09:34 PM

Coming up in 10 days. Anyone else planning to shoot opening day.

We've got birds on a couple fields right now if we can just keep them around.

Wish I was. Major cold air in the forecast will make things interesting. Never really noticed how much of a difference the cold fronts affect them. I've always been a pretty fair weather dove hunter, so my knowledge of dove movement past October is pretty minimal.

We’re gonna hunt the third season. Probably mid Jan. Our rut is over by then and we’ve got some ponds and gravel areas that fill up early am and late pm.

My farmers are loading out soybean/corn trucks at their bins. Birds everywhere. Think I'll just go shoot a grain bin parking lot when it opens back up. Those are fun ones usually

Is that legal? I could see it being considered hunting over bait or part of agricultural practice. Just curious because that seems like a jam up place to shoot them. As a kid I used to shoot them late season around a cattle feed barn where they were cleaning up whatever the cows dropped but that has been 25yrs probably.

I all of my browntop was bushhogged back the end of Sept. It is laying on the ground and still full of seed. I have a good bit of birds coming in so I plan to plow up a new part and put out some fresh wheat and burn some of the browntop to shoot in a couple weeks.

I wish I had that kind of opportunity. I could work my dog several days a week all through season.

I'm afraid this weather is gonna push em on South.

Umm no. Shooting at a grain bin is not baiting. Spills happen. Not on purpose. Plus the clean gravel drive draws em in too.

Some of the best dove shoots we had when we were kids was in gravel pits.
