Hog hunting at night

Hog hunting at night - 01/09/19 09:17 PM

Anyone else on here have an AR15 to shoot hogs but no thermal scope? I can’t afford a thermal scope so I have a red dot on my AR. We have a night hunting permit for hogs so I’m looking forward to shooting some hogs after deer season. What’s the best way to shoot hogs at night without a thermal scope? Set up lights in the field, spotlight them, attach a flashlight to the AR, etc..? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Don’t they have motion activated lights to go under spin feeders?

I’m not really sure. We make our own feeders for the most part so I don’t have any of the spin feeders.

We hunted them with green flashlights over bait. No thermals. Limits range to about 50 yards.

I’ve got a pig of a NV optic(AN-PVS 4) that I’ve used a few times with or without an IR torch. You can still find reliable, quality NV gear for far less than thermal worth buying. I’ve also used a light mounted to my regular scope. Not sure of the make off hand but it looks like the Cyclops VB250 if you want to check that out online. It is hella bright. I do green filter. Gets me out to 150-200 yards if needed but I’m rarely that far out(if I am I’m also suppressed and can get a few sometimes before they even scatter). Illumination with a low setting is handy for the light rig.
