Hog Bait

Hog Bait - 12/14/18 04:43 PM

I have some pigs showing up on camera on some of my property. I want to get them eradicated asap. Several months ago there was a thread about what to bait hogs with to attract them to a certain area so they could be killed. If you have a recipe for something that hogs will really come to a specific spot for, let me know. The area is in Southern TN and I want them gone.

Corn is all I have ever used.

Take your post hole diggers and dig a hole 3 or so feet deep and fill it with corn. They will tear up the area digging it up. You can also take a piece of 4 or 6" PVC put a bunch of corn in it and put a cap on each end, drill a couple of 3/4" holes in it and they will roll it for hours trying to shake the corn out.

It will take a bit of time to allow it to ferment but this recipe works very well. Get a 5 gallon bucket and pour it half full of corn. Cover with water. Add 2 package of grape kool-aid and one bottle of 7 UP. Then add two packages of dry yeast. Put a lid on it and let it sit for about a week. The corn will sour and the hogs cant resist it. You can either pour on top of ground or dig a hole as mentioned above. Or get you a 4" PVC pipe about 4' long and drill several holes in it just large enough the a kernel of corn will come out when bumped. Glue cap on one end and Screw a cap on the other end, one with eye ring and tie to a tree. The hogs will beat it around trying to knock the corn out.

Look up Pig Pipe on youtube and watch the videos. Just plain ole corn works best for me. Good luck with the "eradication".

ALWAYS shoot sows first.

its best if you have about a foot of it thats sealed up with rocks. so even when its empty they'll hear them rocks and think theres corn in it.

corn on the ground works fine though. I usually kick the dirt up a little too. To put the scent of fresh dirt in the air.

Listening to a biologist fro TAMU . He said corn soaked in strawberry soda for a week or so...dig a hole about 3’ deep and if there hogs in the area they’ll come quickly. I tried this and I didn’t make it 50 yds from the hole after pouring the corn/soda mixture in and a hog was in the hole eating the corn. I calmly walked to my truck grabbed the 6.8 and killed him. I don’t remember exactly how many hogs I killed over that hole but it was alot

Just know that if you dig a hole and put corn in it you’re gonna have a mess when they get done.

Yeah well I try not to encourage them to root craters on our place not to mention I’m not voluntarily gonna use post hole diggers. Lol

Hey man, I know everyone thinks there is a secret but corn, hogwild, and Record Rack wildberry blocks are as good as gold.

The (one of) biggest secrets for me ( I only hunt lone boars) is getting them used to the above foods then only bringing it out with you for a hunt. If you leave it there 24/7, they will come by when they want. These are animals with good memories and good noses. Also, a good speaker and the Hog Pro app with Glen Guess’s sound pack works great.

Once the weather warms up and more natural food abundant I found that fishing worms and mushrooms will bring in the big boars more often. If you want to get stalked by the big boars then there is secret and you better have your dang eyes peeled and gun ready, my closest is 5 yards. You bring a dirty pair of your ole ladie’s underwear and a bottle of her pee. Yes folk, it works !!!! This method was arrived at by accidental observation being hogs will root up where a girl pees and boar kills seem to be higher when female hunters are present.

I’ve seen about every homebrew gawdaweful concoction you can imagine and while fermented stinkin crap might be best for catfish, it ain’t for hogs.

The funniest part of this whole thread, nomatter how many pages it goes, is where you used the term “Eradicate”.

my neighbor died from Timic poisoning. He was using it to kill neighborhood cats. Last two he killed were the across the street neighbors little girls kittens. Killed em in their own yard. Karma is a bitch...he died hard.

Matt Brock almost died from exposure to Temik. Stuff is BAD!

I can't believe more folks weren't killed using it years ago.

adding stuff to corn is usually just to help them find it quicker. I like corn, cheap beer and cherry koolaid. mix, let set 3 days and put it anywhere within a mile of a pig and he's coming on a string.

I’ve watched deer and hogs come 1000 yards with a wind straight to one kernel of corn that I placed for the specific purpose of seeing if they would find it. I’ve done this on many occasions. When you try that you’ll know scent control is BS and there is no end all bait for hogs. There are a couple for deer though.

Besides the commercial stuff or corn, the strawberry jello, beer, and five day corn can bring out the masses but the boars are still picky.

A lot of times folk just don’t realize the hogs are already there waiting. Its pretty easy to pick off the sows and youngers from long range but up close on boars is addictive as hell. I’ve watched boars walk over the top of every potion known to man without stopping. I usually hunt just off their trail with a handfull of corn hoping they will stop for a split second for a whiff.

Peanut powder mixed in cheap vegetable oil gets their attention too. Hell, they like eating each other and deer too.

When I stimulate an area for boars, I dump a fresh goopy railroad tie or tack carpet around a tree and squirt axle lube all over it. They love rubbing on that more than eating I think.

In the end, their weakness might not be their appetite, it may just be their rigid routine of using the same path.

You gotta up yo game

All of that sounds like to much work for a stinkin hog. I will just stick to dropping cur dogs in the areas i know they are laying and sort out the casualties when the dust clears. Lol

We must be hunting a different breed of hogs because as soon as I put corn out the big boars are most of the time the first to show up. They show up before daylight and after dark but i haven't found anything that works better than straight corn on the ground, but with that being said i follow the K.I.S.S. method when it comes to alot of things. LOL.
