I haven't shot a hog with a shotgun in a year or two. I ran out of buckshot. I have had great success on small pigs in the open with them though.

I shot a 200 pounder twice at 40 yds with 3.5 inch turkey loads and it just bucked and ran off. It was #4 shot. I never found blood. I thought i was gonna get him but he never checked up. Heart shots i was aiming

I shot a big boar once 7 times with #1 buckshot. Each shot was under 20 yards. I followed him about a half mile before he gave up his ghost after a mag of 9mm was dumped in him.
I DON'T like buckshot on big pigs period.
