How much is everybody paying for bulk ag lime? Planning on getting 10 tons delivered to my property

Re: Bulk ag lime - 02/20/23 05:46 PM

I got a load delivered to my lease last fall, it was just a hair over 26 tons and cost me $900 and change. Good luck getting less than a truck load delivered. I didn't need 26 tons, but that's what I had to buy.

From what I heard bulk powder had gone way up. I know pellet went up $3 a bag between last summer and the other day.

A lot depends on how far they need to drive and how are you planning to spread it? You need to make some calls to find the best option. A good example is Thomasville Feed,, if you need a full load, John sells you the lime and loans you the spreader. If you need a little, he keeps it on hand and charges around $350 for five tons loaded in a buggy.

I paid $35/ton delivered, but had to buy a whole dump truck load. I am probably about 15 miles from the quarry. He told me when I called him the price had gone up. I am sure its not any cheaper now.

Called my local co-op yesterday and they said $40/ ton. Planning on getting 10 tons delivered to my property, then loading the lime into a truck bed and spreading it with a leaf blower. Hopefully that will work...

It won't unless its very dry. Most all the bulk ag lime I have gotten has been damp.

I’d wade thru hell and high water to find a spreader before I went that route!

I would have loved to have been able to have watched this! I cannot imagine this working with lime, but at least I have a new idea in case I ever need to do it manually.

I wish someone would invent a 3 point hitch spreader for lime. It can be done with a regular spreader but the lime has to be super dry.

I bought 8 tons yesterday from the local quarry for 13 dollars a ton. We hauled it with a dump trailer. We are going to rent a spreader to do our fields.

I can haul it up there or G and D feed store will deliver. You can rent a buggy from them and haul it up there to spread it or I can possibly do it for you as well.

Co-op in pell city, but conditions have to be just right. Good wide roads with no limbs sticking out.

Also has to be dry. I set a day aside to get lime and buggy and they would sell it to me because it was wet and wouldn’t spread right.

Absolutely the most aggravating thing on earth is lime that bridges in the buggy. Always bring a shovel.

Re: Bulk ag lime - 04/27/24 02:54 PM

The first load I got several years ago not knowing better, I had the driver dump it in tall grass, mistake. Was ripping up clods of clay that wouldn’t pass through the gate, frustrating day. Now I dump it in the middle of a hard compacted red dirt gravel road. Also makes getting those last few scoops easier by back dragging it with the bucket.
