Any one checked on fertilizer prices for summer plots?
I checked today and got a price of bulk triple 17 at over $500 a ton!
Deers iron and clay peas are going to have to make do with 1/2 what I normally put out.

You may be able to find just a whole of of fertilizer at certain times too. Shortages are real but by fall maybe it’ll free back up

Clay peas don’t need much fertilizer anyhow

Re: Fertilizer - 05/09/21 02:08 AM
Recent soil test recommended 40 lbs of Phosphorus for IC Peas. My K levels were very high. pH was 6.3.
If you mix with Sorghum or Sunflowers you could use 18-46-0, I'd need 100 lbs per acre. Recently quoted $23/50 lbs bagged.

At 300# per acre which isn’t much plant food at all that’s only $100 per acre. Ouch

In 20 years of doing what I do I’ve never seen fertilzer prices double fast as they have

Re: Fertilizer - 07/11/21 08:09 PM
That's why I am doing a rotation. Cereal grains/brassicas in the fall, and beans/peas in the spring. Each provides what the other needs. And I only put 0-20-20 on clover, peas and beans. But my soil test said I didn't need much of it.

I'm seriously considering not planting
It's only money, gotta do what you gotta do. Not planting is not an option for my old green field hunting, shooting house sitting arse. A few hundred extra dollars ain't gonna make or break me

I warned yalls asses. Our prices are fluid and change by the hour. Try managing this shucks for guys farming 1,000’s of acres
Great time to spend the cash and pull deer off your cheap, non-fertilizin' neighbors' place. I always make sure my deer eat better than my children!
Hey, can't hang your children on the wall, so feed your deer well.

Yes if you find some a lot cheaper your better buy it because they don’t know their replacement cost is yet.

I paid 14.25 for 34-0-0 and 16.95 for 17-17-17 at universal yesterday.
They said they supply seed to co-ops, which probaby explains why their prices are often better.

I’m still confused. It may be the public school education but, not accounting for S(sulfur I presume), that’s 110% by volume. Is this a custom mix that you buy in bulk? Not a bagged product? I can find no mention of any like product elsewhere. I am intrigued.

Re: Fertilizer - 09/19/21 12:51 AM
We make custom blends at our plant. That last number is 10 units of sulfur. We use ammonium sulfate to get there

That is the total plant food per acre that he is applying. So if you put out 300 lbs of 17-17-17-5s. That would be a 51-51-51-15s total

Thank you for the explanation. I’m only familiar with the NPK ratios I use in the landscape business. This was throwing me for a loop.

Sulfur and magnesium are major minors we lack up here in N Bama.
Has anyone had any success with the 13-6-6 slow release with the ag coat. I was thinking about trying it this year. Some farmers around here have been using it and we’re very pleased
