Lime/ lime truck or buggy /Wilcox

Looking for someone who delivers lime or cons in lime truck or rents buggy, preferably the truck but will do other options, in and around Wilcox county

If your to the west and can DIY, Thomasville F&S will have lime delivered at around 25 tons per load and rent you the buggy. I have contact info for a man out of Linden named Gabe that has a two wheel drive spreader truck, but your roads must be in good shape, his # is 334-422-1000. Guess he's still doing it, been over a year since we last talked. Keith at Safford did away with renting the lime buggy.

Call John at Thomasville F&S. Was running around $42 a ton delivered with the buggy, but you would need a tractor or loader to reload buggy after emptied. Best way to go.

Seems like 3 years ago I had it delivered and spread for 20$/ton. Ill find out here s shortly be putting lime on alfalfa.

Lime is cheep, it's the trucking that dictates most of the cost.

Got the Central AL Farmers Co Op from Selma coming with a load or two of lime week after Labor Day. Talked to David. Very accommodating.

ETA they’re coming to Flatwoods area between Catherine and Lamison. Wilcox County, but not by a whole lot. Dallas County life isn’t far west of there I don’t think.

How much per ton delivered it you don't mind me asking?? What's the minimum they'll deliver? I paid $35/ton 2 weeks ago with me picking it up. Elmore Co. Coop wanted $30/ ton with me picking it up but Central Al was closer and easier.

I was supposed to call and check Monday but didn't. Last two times they did it was $12-1300 per truckload brought out and spread. That's hyper expensive compared to what farmers who are buying a bunch of truck loads pay. It was CHEAP to me considering they brought it and dumped it. Brought another machine to load it into the spreader buggy and the spreader guy went down all our sketchy ass roads and through our little plots. I'd have still thought it was a bargain at $2k. We had no way to haul it, no tractor with a loader to get it in the spreader truck or buggy, and no tractor big enough to pull a lime buggy. The buggy would have turned over AT LEAST twice with us anyway.

That was a 25 ton (approx) load. That's $55 a ton spread but if you have no other way to do it, other than a trailer and shovels.

I was more than satisfied. Perspective. Gotta have some. Lol

I'd do $55 a ton spread all day long. Wish someone would offer me that deal.

$55/ton in a hunting club application is very reasonable. Most folks won’t even touch it period with their equipment. You aren’t going to be using very many tons of lime and it’s a lot more work spreading plots than spreading a pasture or field.

David quoted me $936 yesterday to deliver and spread 12 tons 13 miles down Hwy 80 from him. High to me but got to have it.

I don't find $78 a ton insane. Lime delivered here is $40. That's with a rental buggy and you do it yourself. I'd gladly pay the extra $336 to have someone put out 12 tons.

It's like a road construction company. They pay a lot less for concrete than a guy building a patio behind his house.

$78 ton is robbery. Material cost alone is $18/ton hauled around here minus spreading. And yes that’s on plots too within reason distance.

Would the time of year have an effect on price? Last time I bought lime this time of year it was around 30 a ton plus the buggy. I would say 50 to 80 per ton hauled and spread with someone's equipment is fair. It costs alot to haul material these days. Try getting fill sand around Bham or material in west Alabama. Things have different prices in different places.

True but they are a pretty good haul from the nearest plant. They are also only getting 12 tons(half tri axle load). The trucks gotta run the same distance regardless and most drivers are not going to haul a half load and if they do they have to compensate for it. Never order half load increments in any hauled material. The person spreading will also have to move a piece of equipment to load the hopper if dumping on site. Also if not dumping on site most spreader trucks will only hold 8-10 tons max so he’s going to have to make two trips. Let’s just say the guy spreading drove a spreader truck and ruined a float tire. You can buy a 48x 31 float for around $2,000 but you still have to mount it and that’s not cheap either. One tire could easily end up costing $3,500 +. Around here you can’t hardly find anyone to spread lime with a truck in a hunting club environment because of the added obstacles and potential to tear up equipment.

This is why you are saying it's robbery. $18 a ton hauled. You can't get it hauled where I am for less than $40. So 55 to 75 spread isn't bad.

The coop next to me is $30/ton spread.

Which Co-Op is that? I know I'm probably going to be near you and I need a few tons spread.

Just FYI 257 they charged us $31 per ton for the lime. They brought fertilizer on the spreader truck, spread it, then spread the lime. Charged us $650 for the hauling and spreading. I thought it was a bargain.

I don't get it. They brought and spread my 12 tons on 3 patches Monday. I met them at the Co op and the driver left in the spreader truck with 7 tons. He followed me 13 miles west on Hwy 80. In 15 minutes that was spread. He went back for the other 5 tons and returned in about 35 minutes. another 15 minutes and he was done. We left Co op about 8:10 and by 9:30 he was thru at my place. Final charge was $942 and change. I'm not complaining but I sure don't understand their pricing system. Only used the spreader truck at my place, probably 3 pieces of equipment at yours and delivered yours 3 times as far as mine. I think from here on out I can just use pelletized and spread with tractor spreader myself.

12 tons spread for $942 is $78.50/ton. Pelletized at $4/bag x50 bags is $200/ton. 12 tons is $2400, that's $121.50 more per ton and $1458.50 more for 12 tons. That's using Ramer math so there could be a difference according to whatever system you're using. I wouldn't complain much for a relatively small quantity @ $78.50/ton

As I said I am not complaining. Just seems strange that they would deliver 3x farther, take 3 pieces of equipment versus one and have at minimum 3-5x times as much time invested for the same amount of money basically. I have excellent roads, and not more than 1/2 mile off highway. RobertD patches can be miles off highway and some of the roads can be terrible. I know because I hunted that property for 15 years. Just doesn't seem like good business practices but what do I know. I know the math on the lime, I'm just venting a little.

Well our bill was around $1250 for 25 tons of lime spread (not sure, they don't trust me to handle any money) and we bought 4 tons of fertilizer for almost $2k (spread). Total bill should have been in the zip code of $3500. We got twice as much spread as you did. We spent about 2.5x as much total so maybe that explains why some of it was cheaper. It's the 4th time we've used them. I'm also a very nice guy to deal with. That CAN'T have hurt. lol
