Fertilizer Timing

Dumb question of the day, folks. I bought fertilizer for my clover patches last August and never got to put it out. The weekends I didn't work, it rained. So, should I spread it in mid-February or wait until mid-Spring? Is there a bad time to fertilize or a best time to fertilize?
