What fall foodplot seed does the best with high grazing? What have you had the best luck with?

I'm assuming since you are really concerned about grazing you are talking about summer plots?

Sorry about that. I meant fall foodplots. I went back and corrected it.

I planted about 6 acres of wheat, oats, winter peas, and triticale at the farm this year. Deer don't have access to these plots (long story). The seed wheat and bob oats got planted in a few plots, the WMS blend of triticale and black oats got planted in a separate area. All treated the same, planted on the same day, and fertilized the same.

The WMS blend of triticale and black oats is the clear winner for overall forage. The plot I planted in it seems to be about 25% bigger than the other plots I planted in standard seed wheat and bob oats. The WMS blend of triticale and oats did come with some sort of "nitro coat" on it, so I can't be certain that the extra growth isn't due to it.

That being said the bag of WMS was quite a bit more expensive than regular seed wheat and bob oats, so even with the increased forage available I am not sure I want to pay the extra. But if you've got the money it's clear the WMS stuff is growing a bit faster and is more lush.

I think its cereal rye, due to it actively growing with temps above 35 degrees.

I plan on doing radishes next year, as part of a mix with cereal rye and probably wheat.

I’ve been planting the WMS triticale and black oats. I’ve also planted radishes and turnips. Had grest stands with both. They just can’t handle the grazing pressure. I may try the cereal rye next year.

Ain't no coonasses hunting around you? They would fix that grazing pressure.

Rye will put on more growth in the cold/cool weather during deer season than anything else.

Well all grasses like wheat,oats, rye all hit the winter dormancy stage at some point. So there's just not a magic one to say go with. I say go heavy tonnage early with radish and wheat/rye and just put the tonnage there for later on.

That is not really an option on most leased land due to limited size of food plots.

Well then just put a corn feeder out cause you don't have any other option then.
