I've been using the spray grade powder for several years. I think I get (6) 50 gallon tanks out of a 51lb bag. What does the liquid sell for and what's the mix ratio?
My favorite was Phase II from Riverside. Local Co-op doesn't have it anymore but has a similar product called Class Act. Much better than dish soap in my opinion.
I usually just buy a jug of surfactant from Tractor Supply. When spraying cogon grass and other stuff it just sticks better. I sprayed some bamboo fishing canes the other day and I know it won't stick to that stuff without a surfactant.
Unless you're spraying some kind of seriously tough to kill plant then I don't see where what you get from the co-op needs anything added. The generic I get is called Cornerstone Plus. It's my understanding that the "Plus" means plus surfactant. Never had an issue with getting good kills on your everyday weeds and grasses.
Doesn't mean adding more will help either. I prefer to go by the labels. If the label doesn't tell me to add any, I'm not wasting my money by adding it.
I add some class act or synergy or something to everything I spray. Most are like $40 for 2.5 gal and 1 pint per 100 gal. It's not like it cost a fortune. Chemical is the cheap part of the equation to me
