Guys this is a good club. Great turkeys and big hogs. I've killed good deer on it. I was selective this year and passed a few good 8's. I'm out due to school. The people in the club are also great. You will never drag a hog or deer by yourself. Glenn and Don are top notch.

yeah we do have a few hogs but we do as damage as mr green jeans will allow us on those numbers. As for the gas wells in the past 6 months the gas company has pulled over half of our wellsand concreted the sites off. So that means a lot less traffic up and down the roads!!

How many bucks and does were killed this year? I'm interested but would like to find out more info and check out the place when we have some common free time.
How are the stands picked out each day? Guest access? Guest fees? I'm looking for a place you can spend some quality time outside of hunting as well. Club name?
Posted By: glenncmp

Re: 3900 acre club in Tuscaloosa county - 04/04/14 02:07 PM

ok .. Guest fees are $25 a day and a member is allowed 5 guests per year. We normally have a draw the night before for the morning hunt but due to some people abusing that we are looking at first come first serve the day of. I'm not certain of deer numbers this past season since most of us were busy moving our campsite and only hunted a handful of times.

Re: 3900 acre club in Tuscaloosa county - 04/04/14 02:25 PM

As you guys are considering a change in sign-out, you might want to consider a rule that accommodates overnight AND local hunters. Was in a club near your's once where members from out of town (staying in RV's) would wake up early, sign out their preferred area, and then go back to bed for a few hours. It was not uncommon for me (a local guy) to arrive at the sign-out board at a "normal time" and every spot on the place taken for certain winds. If I wanted to get a spot that was halfway popular, I had to get there at 4 a.m. that year. IMO, the system was stacked to help the "overnight members"... with the club leadership all fitting into that description.

A fair system for clubs having a mix is a draw at a specified time each morning. Make it at a specified time - NOT rigged to aid the guys staying in campers. If all of the members were out-of-towners or if all were local guys, there likely wouldn't be a need... it was a primary reason for leaving the aforementioned club.

yeah the tagging out and sleeping in is the reason we are looking at the rule change. All that is doing is blocking someonne else from hunting an area that he paid to be able to hunt.

You don't understand dear - I'm going up so I can get a better spot on the club for tomorrow morning - can't take any of the boys. Her... Next weekend, I'm going to head on up to Birmingham on Friday evening and stay overnight. Me... For what? Her... To get an early start on the Saturday sales. Me... In Glenn's club, if you just get in the woods and hunt and not compete over green fields, you will see and kill good deer. I never had problems tagging out.

Sorry chief... the Lord's blessed me with a better wife than I deserve and I ain't about to do any mess like that. If she's willing to watch the boys on a Saturday so I can hunt, turnabout is fair game.

What is your rule on personal stands? Ladders, Lock- ons, climbers?
Posted By: glenncmp

Re: 3900 acre club in Tuscaloosa county - 04/18/14 07:34 AM

if you want to hang a stand no problem. if your referiing to other poeple using them... ladders and lock-ons are ok but not climbers.

Re: 3900 acre club in Tuscaloosa county - 04/18/14 06:54 PM

So .....If I do the scouting, put up a stand, cut lanes etc, anybody can hunt it??
Posted By: glenncmp

Re: 3900 acre club in Tuscaloosa county - 04/23/14 12:25 PM

yes.. unless its a climber.

Re: 3900 acre club in Tuscaloosa county - 04/24/14 03:52 AM

No thanks....I dont like the idea of doing the work then some goober ( that probably has no stands up ) stumbles across my stand then goes in with the wrong wind or gets busted in it, then when I go in and have the deer stareing me down cause they screwed it up.

Never understood peoples thinking about what difference it makes, rather a ladder or climber??
Posted By: glenncmp

Re: 3900 acre club in Tuscaloosa county - 04/24/14 06:36 AM

that was the rule the club members decided on. We have never had a problem with it in the past since the majority either sit on a green field or use their climbers

Re: 3900 acre club in Tuscaloosa county - 04/25/14 01:28 AM

Just curious.... what is the difference in putting up a ladder or leaving a climber hanging on a tree all season?? confused
Posted By: glenncmp

Re: 3900 acre club in Tuscaloosa county - 04/25/14 07:30 AM

I agree with ya BOB.. Guess most folks that use ladder stands dont' use climbers is the only reason I can think of. I have both. I think in 5 years I know of someone sitting in one of my ladder stands one time.

Re: 3900 acre club in Tuscaloosa county - 04/26/14 02:55 PM

That's the way it should be. First come first serve. Too many people get to thinking it's "THEIR" spot when your not allowed to hunt all stands. If you don't want anybody hunting don't hang a stand take a climber in. Just my 2cents.

While I'm sure this sentiment applies to some, it has nothing to with a place being "my spot". It's my stand - I paid for it, scouted out an area, and put the effort in to hang the stand. On top of that, there is a safety risk involved. Suppose my stand is rated for 250 and a 300 lb. man climbs into it - if he falls, I could be sued in such a scenario.

I hang around 20 stands every year on our properties. I do it in order to have plenty of places for different winds - and to keep overall pressure in one area reduced. If another guy wants to use it, at the very least he should ask my permission - I'd have to ask his permission if I wanted to use his ATV/UTV that he keeps at the clubhouse. It's my stand' but it's not my area. Anyone else wants to hunt there... they have that right. They don't have the right to hunt my stand. Like BOB above, this would be a deal-breaker for me too.
Posted By: BOB

Re: 3900 acre club in Tuscaloosa county - 04/26/14 09:54 PM

My point exactly....if you want to hunt that area that ls fine, just carry your own stand.
Then on top of that the ones that want to hunt them never would have gone into the area if they hadn't found my trail going in.
On top of that they are usually the ones that dont any of their own stands up. I cant tolerate folks that join a club and think if someone puts up a stand it has to a community stand.
Dont get me wrong, l always put up a couple that are community stands. I feel every member should, be it a house or ladder.

Re: 3900 acre club in Tuscaloosa county - 04/26/14 10:32 PM

In some cases BOB, I won't mind allowing a person hunting it... as long as he will hunt it with a good wind and be scent conscience about it. But a few guys I hunt with? Nada... there are some that will hunt my stand every waking hour if I give permission. After a few days of sitting on the ground in the area, they usually move on. Problem for me is that if our guys find one of my stands, some automatically think it's a good spot - and will often burn that area out for the remainder of the year. Thankful we have a rule in place that all stands that are not club stands have to be hunted with permission of the owner.

Re: 3900 acre club in Tuscaloosa county - 04/27/14 03:05 PM

Sounds like yall need to lease your own land, and that would be a solution to all, heck the man is looking for members for his club, not someone to pick apart the rules that he has in place. To me it seems obvious of why yall looking for club. But to each his own and good luck on those stands
Posted By: Bamarich2

Re: 3900 acre club in Tuscaloosa county - 04/27/14 09:16 PM

HP... not picking apart anything and I'm not looking. One man gets on here and says their rule is "the way it should be"... I offered another view. Sometimes in Glenn's position, he might be appreciative to hear this kind of discussion. With most hunters being guys who hunt food plots, I doubt this discussion would do any harm to him filling his spots.

Re: 3900 acre club in Tuscaloosa county - 04/27/14 10:38 PM

I understand what y'all are saying but I've never hunted one of the type clubs y'all are talking about. All clubs I hunt is either my family land or clubs with 10 or less people that's like family that has 50-75 stands that have been in the same areas for years. I guess I didn't understand y'all's point of view because I've never hunted In a place like that.

It's a good policy to get everyone's input... I don't know that anyone in a club the size of your's is going to ever agree on every rule in place. That's just part of it... good luck filling your openings.
