Still looking for the right member. This is an opportunity to help build a special piece of property from the ground up.

We certainly hope so. If anyone enjoys the management aspect as much as the hunt and watching them grow, then this will be the right fit for them.

Do you have an aerial of the property? Something where we can see the lay of the land with?

What do you mean by "management minded"?

Re: One opening for management minded member. - 06/02/22 04:14 PM

Someone who will let young deer walk. Who understands the affects of unnessecary pressure on a piece of property and how it affects deer movement and sightings. Who understands buck to doe ratio and why it's so important to keep your numbers as close as you can. Someone who wants to see the property improve and makes good decisions for the club as a whole instead of what's only going to benefit themselves.

Good luck sorting through hunters to find the 5% who can do what they agree to. Talk is cheap. Sad to see full grown men look you in the eye and lie to you over hunting.

Re: One opening for management minded member. - 06/02/22 05:36 PM

Does the club have a long term lease 5-10 years. For that it take 3-5 years to get good deer and turkeys. Getting in a cub with the possibility of losing the lease every year will keep some away. Letting one slide so it may be a good deer/turkey next year but not able to hunt him sucks.
I do understand there’s a risk/gamble in everything you do.

You've got that right. It takes self control and a vision for the future instead of the right now.

Re: One opening for management minded member. - 06/02/22 06:32 PM

It's a year to year lease. The guys before us had the lease for 2 years and let it go because the lease price went up. The guys before that had it for around 20 years from what I was told. Not sure why they gave it up. The first night we put cameras up we had 8 different bucks on camera. It's definitely a from the ground up property with a lot to be done. We have a guy with a skid steer and mulcher that's going to help us clear and expand new plots. We've got a vision for the property and already have something to work with. The genetics are there. It just needs a little TLC. The previous lease holders didn't shoot the property up. He sent me some trail cam photos and kill photos. I've done a lot of research on that area and there's a lot of good bucks taken in that area.

We're about 5 miles from the Tombigbee River. Very little hog sign on the property. Have yet to see one on our cameras.

I started hunting in that general area back in the late 80s. Based on past experience, wIth it only being 825 acres in that Silas, Gilbertown, Toxey, Needham, Butler, area, your success or failure in your management plan is going to be 90-95% based solely on who you have for neighbors. Right property, in the right location, with the right neighbors, you’re golden. Right property, right location, wrong neighbors, you’re just beating your head up against a wall trying to Intensively manage for anything. You are 100% correct though, there are some very fine bucks killed in that general area each and every year, but they are being killed in very specific areas, on very specific properties. Hopefully your new lease is a good one. Sounds like you’ve got a solid plan. Best of luck and keep us posted on how it works out.

is true of most if not all 825ac leases and not specific to that location.

my experiences with that area are very positive. good luck with your member search.

I'll give a bump...I hunt just south of Silas on family land and love the south west bama woods along the tombigbee. Good location with good deer especially an area like there where the bottoms where we hunt have all the hogs

Re: One opening for management minded member. - 06/06/22 12:20 AM

I had a lease right down the rd from there one time that I had some giants on camera. Those stupid cameras kept me leasing that land for years hoping to connect with one of them but it never happened. Those deer were so nocturnal because of all the pressure around you never had much of a chance to see one in daylight

Re: One opening for management minded member. - 06/06/22 12:53 AM

I'm not sure what he scored. He was sent to me by the guys who had it before us. He definitely had some good mass though.

Re: One opening for management minded member. - 06/06/22 12:56 AM

Out main focus is age and pressure. We want to focus on the quality of hunts more so than quantity. If the weather or wind isn't right, we don't hunt. On a bad day, we would rather sit around the camp, cook, watch football and have a few drinks. We try to minimize unessecary pressure the best we can. Hopefully it works out. How much land did you lease?
