Best Hunting Club In Alabama - Northport - 10/07/21 03:15 PM

If you're looking for a great hunting club - this is the best club I have ever hunted - https://buckhorntuscaloosa.wixsite.com/buckhornhunting, I'm no longer in the area having moved to Cullman.
I am having no luck finding a club here but thought I could maybe brighten someone else's day with a great club, excellent pricing, and in the area of 15,000 acres - bring your GPS!!!

Tony Wynn used to be president. Is he still a member there and how's he doing if he is?

Think he's still there, last couple of years been hard on me, had surgeries on both rotator cuffs and right bicep, so haven't hunted much - when I did, I usually hunted alone and didn't go up to the camp very much.

That property used to border the Gulf States Paper/Westervelt Hunting Preserve before they divided it into separate leases. They stocked deer there from their lands in Pickens County and had their own game wardens and wildlife biologists.

$1200 for the whole area, $900 for the lower half - you just can't beat the deal. I once lived about 15min. from it - I was like a pig in doo-doo!
Were you a member ever?

Usually around 40, a lot of them are out of state or out of town and some only come around to hunt hogs. I've been there many times and been the only one there.

Not calling BS or trying to highjack but if they have 40 full members with access to both sides, that's $48,000 in total dues. If they have 15,000 acres of land like the website says, that means they are leasing for $3.20/acre and I guess the 60 greenfields must just plant themselves for free. I lease and have leased a lot of land in AL and the numbers just dont add up. Either the number of members, or the stated annual dues rate, is incorrect. One of the two is way off, unless someone is just donating access to the majority of the land, to the club.

Re: Best Hunting Club In Alabama - Northport - 10/08/21 05:37 PM

I don't doubt that NCPirate's numbers are legit.

This club was established way back before qdm, leasing and locked gates were the norm in the area. Just north of a paper company hunting preserve that sold daily permits, but surrounded otherwise by lands that could be hunted with a free company permit. Obviously, the out of state land owner and those who established the club are on good terms and have been for decades.

The first lease I joined was directly across the river and $3.20/acre was exactly what we paid for our lease after an increase or two. That was before the lands were sold to new owners with different motives.

I think they have a bunch of odd rules and off limits areas where only certain people can hunt if I'm not mistaken

The rules can be viewed in the link in the first post of this thread. "No private fields anymore" Fewest rules than I've seen in a long time for a lease.

According to the rules, you are only allowed to kill 2 un antlered deer and 6 hogs

That changed 2 seasons ago - it's wide open, hunt where you will. The "private" areas are now open to the entire club.

Bet that caused a few openings

It may be 15,000 acres but so much of it is super steep and basically unhuntable. There are some deer up there but they are hard to find. I was in it for 2 seasons and always had more luck on the north end. It's a huge place and doesn't get a ton of pressure but I'd go weeks without seeing a deer at times. Corn and feeders probably helps but we didnt have those rules back when I was in it

There's some turkey there but not a ton. They don't gobble much up there for some reason

"Yeah but there are BIG deer up there!" rofl

Not seeing deer for 8 hunts is tough, I don't care how big the deer are rumored to be.

If you doubt anything I've said, you can prove me wrong by viewing their site, or calling either of the two phone numbers listed on it and speak personally with them. I hunted there because it was economical, not trying to waste anyone's time.

Yes, there is some steep areas, not as much as you make it sound, but they are surrounded by flat land. I always see deer there, and in the 5yrs I hunted put 2 - 3 of them in my freezer by the end of the season. If you're not interested, no problem, that club has been in existence for decades, it will survive us both. btw - I preferred the south side, I had more luck there - wink

I’ll say, the same rules for posting in the classified should apply here. Too much bulldoodoo and off topic comments going on.
